Hi all ...


Well, I got on the scale this morning after not weighing myself for over a week. I've been thinking I look better due to my exercise routine and the fact that I'm really focusing on eating better. Also, I swear I have some slight muscle definition that I didn't have

This could be a number of things:



  • Water retention- is AF due soon?

  • Muscle gain?

  • Mini plateau?

I think you're doing great.....don't lose heart, keep up the determination, and see that goal in front of you!

Thanks Miranda -- I weighed myself in the morning today, because I too weigh more at the end of the day. I suppose it could be that I'm losing inches, though I haven't measured. But wouldn't my body fat percentage be going down then? According to my body fat scale, it's the same. Oddly, I do feel like I look better! Which is why I was sure I'd lost at least a couple pounds.

HI Carrie...we are in the same boat! I have been stuck at the same weight for over a week now. I, too feel like I have lost but am confused by what the scale says. The MOST frustrating thing to do is work very hard for something and NOT see results in numbers. You are probably gaining muscle and losing fat. I am scratching my head too! It seems that I take in 1200 calories and burn 250-350 off and still no scale changes. IT is very frustrating and I wish there was something that I could tell you that would make it easier! Just don;t give up! You may not have lost anything, but you didn't gain either! You are doing great!!!!!
Somebody told me to go off the diet for one day and then back on it. They said it will jump start the metabolism.....I shrugged about it, wondering if I could do it and have the willpower! I think it is a good concept, but not for me right now. Keep your chin up, I KNOW how hard it is! I was given some great advice and am taking it all and going to restructure my diet. First and foremost, I am going to listen to my body. I think I have been trying to tell it what to do and not listening. I also think I have been depriving myself and my body of needed calories.
I KNOW you are doing everything right and one day, you'll jump on the scales and see a 3 pound loss overnight and will know that it is worth it!

Thank you Dawn, your support really helps! Like you, I'm trying to listen to my body and not impose too many restrictions on it. I'm trying to make lifestyle changes as opposed to "dieting." Still, a few years ago I could lose 5 pounds in a week, no problem! Grr. I hope you're right that I'm just at a plateau and one day the scale will actually show a loss of weight when I get on it! I know the number on the scale should not be all-important, and it's not to me, but to see NO loss can be so discouraging.


I'm trying to focus on the fact that I haven't gained any weight, like you said. Now that would be really depressing! Good luck to you too and I hope we both see some weight loss soon!

I think you are doing great and we both will be seeing a big difference! I have about 85 pounds to go, so to stall after about 13 pounds really hurts! I know though that I didn't put them on and trying to hold on is hard. Please post when you see a drop, even one pound and I will celebrate it with you!! Good luck!

Carrie do not be discouraged by the scale. Muscle weighs more than fat, I would buy myself a tape measure and start measuring body parts, its what I do and its a much better indicator of my success in my body tone especially when I am working out a lot. The scale barely moves for me. Oprahs fitness instructor suggests not weighing for at least 2 months when you are starting a fitness regime because of the muscle distribution and how it effects the scale. Toning up takes less space than fat but it is denser and will not make much difference on the "scale" per se but will make a HUGE difference with your clothes and the way you look.

Try not to get discouraged and try not to rely so much on the scale. Buy a good tape measure.

Thanks, that helps a lot! I'm going to avoid the scale for a while ... I can *see* that I look more toned, so it's silly to go by what the scale is telling me. And yes, I'll get a tape measure!
