Pamper Yourself, Rejuvenate Your Energy!
I know that you do not take as good care of yourself as you do of every one else. You're guilty, you know it! But you cannot be your best if you don't take care of yourself first. It's just common sense. So, here's a quick list of some ways to pamper yourself, calm your senses, relax your mind, unwind, breathe deeply, and recharge your batteries!
- To start your relaxation - think "Spa", play soothing music, not too loud, just for background, to slow your heart rate and take you into relaxation mode.
- Light scented candles.
- Lower the lights if you can, or turn them off and enjoy the candle light.
- Nestle on the sofa or bed with cushy pillows under your back and neck.
- Blow out the candles if you think you might nap, but try to stay awake and do some bio-feedback techniques. Concentrate on flexing and relaxing different sections of your body, starting at your feet, and moving up the body to your neck and head. This is a wonderful way to relax and re-energize.
- Stretch your limbs, move slowly and purposefully to loosen up tight joints and muscles.
- Practice breathing deeply, sit straight up and breathe deep, filling up your lungs, then let it out slowly. You will feel your head start to clear, and you will feel more awake
- If you find your mind wandering towards things you need to do, set the timer on your alarm to give yourself 15 minutes or whatever you feel you can spare for taking care of yourself, and put those thoughts in a mental holding file to be looked at when you are done with your relaxation session.
- If you can't relax when clutter is talking to you, take some time, after your relaxation process to clean just ONE room, move things out of the room that don't belong there, but don't get caught up in finding a home for those things just yet. Just clean one room and stay there for a while!
- If you have papers, bills, magazines, and other clutter stressing you, sort them, trash what is not important, and organize what's left quickly into baskets or file folders or boxes that you can work on later when you are more energized.
- To start revving back up from relaxation mode, change your music to more upbeat, happy music that makes you want to dance. Nothing pounding or grating, just something that makes you want to move. Music is a great mood enhancer!
If you have time to continue your relaxation session, read something you've been wanting to read for a long time. A novel, or something funny, or inspiring. Read the comics!
More Relaxation, Recharging Tips
- Make yourself a plate of cheese and fruit and have a glass of wine (if that's ok for you to do!)
- Indulge in a movie and popcorn
- Get creative, sew, scrapbook, take pictures, build something, paint something, plant something
- Take on a new hobby
- Give yourself a manicure or pedicure, or better yet, let your kids do it for you.
- Bake something. Filling the house with wonderful aromas is the best aromatherapy, plus the bonus of a yummy treat!
- Go back in time, browse photo albums while listening to music from your youth. But not if it will make you sad!
- Play with scissors! Make snowflakes, color, play with playdoh, make salt dough ornaments, do some crafts with the kids
- Take a nature walk, collect leaves, take them home and press them with a warm iron between sheets of wax paper. Cut them out and hang them in your windows!
Brainstorming for fun things to do can be very relaxing and motivating in and of itself! Remember the point is to take better care of yourself. You can't be your best for others if you aren't your best for yourself first. Accept that and you will see an amazing shift in your well being. You will stop feeling as frustrated and stressed if you just put yourself first for a change. It's just good common sense! Most of all, HAVE FUN!!
