Hi, All...
I just found this board today and I'm hoping for some help. I'm 33 years old, have a DD who will be 3 in September and work full time. Here is my problem. When I had DD, I gained a lot of weight (about 45 pounds). I have always been small (never weighed over 110 and am 5'4") and was freaked out about losing the weight. It took about 6 months, but I made it down to 115 and was happy about that and felt good about myself (I did the Adkins diet). I stayed that weight for about 9 months before I started gaining it back again and have been unable to lose it since then.
My weight has always been a part of me. Before I had DD, I was lucky that I could eat pretty much what I wanted. I have been a runner my entire life and would run about 3 miles a day, 3-4 days a week. Now I am still trying to run, but I just can't get in shape like I was before. I don't have the endurance and my legs get tired easily and I guess I just don't have the motivation to keep going without stopping. So, I'm pretty much at a standstill. I can't afford to join a gym and HATE doing weights anyways. It's way to boring and redundant.
I also don't seem to be able to sustain a healthy diet. I have no desire to eat healthy. I may start a day and try, but by the end of the day it's all over. I just need to get out of this rut... Any thoughts? Has anyone else been through this? I have 20 pounds I need to lose.
TIA...
Wendy

Welcome Wendy!!
When you've grown up without weight issues, it can come as a nasty shock when doing what you've always done doesn't work!!
Nice to meet you Wendy! I have a DD that will be 3 in August. I also have 3 other children and with each child it's been a little tough to lose the weight or get back to that pre baby weight. Always the last 10 to 15 lbs I have a problem with.
I have found there are just certain things you have to make choices about regarding your diet and exercise routine. Not that I'm any good at it. About the only food choice I've made and committed too as well as stuck too was switching to diet soda. Pretty much chose not to drink my calories and I have noticed a couple lb. difference that has stayed. Now if I could just do this with chips.
Also, I accept the fact that physical activity has to be a part of my daily routine, however, still working on implementing that into my life. You sound like
Thanks for all the ideas! I just noticed how many people here are new... It must be bathing suit season!
Regarding my diet, I have a few weaknesses: Breakfast and morning snack are good, but when it comes to lunch, I'm hopeless. In my job, I am treated to lunch at really nice places usually at least twice a week. They just bring out all this food. On the days I don't have a luncheon, I try to be good and have Smart Ones in the freezer, but those never sound as good as the Taco Bell across the street. Then my other problem is sweets and pretty much just carbs in general. I have to cut back, especially for snacks.
As far as exercise goes, I am running about twice a week, but like I said, I just can't seem to get past some kind of block in the road. I used to be able to run for 45 minutes straight, now I'm lucky to get 15 in without walking. I know it's better than nothing, but I just want to get better. I've tried the strength training before as well, but I just have some kind of block against those kind of exercises, including crunches and leg lifts. I guess I just need to readjust my mindset!
Also, I have a lot of stress going on right now. I work in commercial real estate in a high rise building downtown and they just sold my building. At the same time, my boss and mentor of 5 years moved out of state last week. And, we are building a house in a city that is 40 miles away (but in the same metropolitan area) and so I have to find a new job. And, we are living an a small apartment since we sold our other house in 2 days thinking it would take about 5 months... My DD is not handling this well at all!!! I usually don't eat when I'm stressed, but this time I am!
i mostly lurk around here but i see some similarities so i thought i'd post... grew up slim, and then was an athlete gym rat so never had to pay that much attention to diet..plus i always liked healthy food so hard to cut calories etc.. i always envy those folks who say, stop drinking soda and lose 10 lbs! lol!!!
My jobs also lends itself to lunches etc... on days i know i will be eating out, i have a smaller breakfast 9i boiled egg rather than two etc...) and no snack and i try to pick out yummy things that are healthier. If I have a big lunch, I'll have a lite dinner. I I don't have a lunch, then I either pack one from home, or hit subway, where I have them load on veggies etc.. so that my sandwich is the equaivalent a sandwich and a salad (eg..today i have a turkey &cheese sub,but i have lettuce/tom/green peppers/cukes/spinach and carrots on it!)
Figure out what you can eat at the places you like...how about a chicken soft taco!
I go to the gym but i really wish i was a runner...you can always work out as long as you have your sneakers!
Divaliscious~ nice to see you Montessori friend ;-)
Wendy, I would agree with Diva...on those days you have to go out for lunch (how awful that they make you do that, and pay for it, LOL) go with a lighter breakfast and dinner, or just cut back on snacks that day. Little baby steps, see.....told you that was out motto!!
