Hypnosis (my consultation)

Well ladies, I went to my consultation at the hypnosis center. I will say, this is something I'd really like to do. What he said, makes sense to me, especially because it IS my will power that helps me to lose weight, but also, it's what keeps me from doing it. I know a lot of my own issues are deep seeded, and hey, if he can fix my subconscious, great!
He did a test of suggestion to see how well I respond. He siad he was surprised because he thought for sure, I'd be very analytical, but I wasn't. lol. Obviously, he knows nothing about me. He figured I was very analytical, cuz I was analyzing my food bit, however, as much as I AM analytical, I'm not. lol. It was funny. He was surprised.
Anyhow, he said I am a good candidate for hypnosis and suggested that a few other women he spoke about that was at the same level of accepting suggestions as me, completed the program in a short time, because they accpeted, well, suggestions faster. lol. He said those that are very analytical, are harder because you have to train them to, well, basically imagine things.
Overall, seriously, I'd like to do this. I'm thinking, maybe I'll try a shorter program. He suggested 16 weeks for me to lose about 30 lbs, but he said I could prolly do a shorter program, 8-13 weeks and just keep up with the tapes and stuff, to reinforce my subconsious after my program is done.
Now for the question I've been wondering and you prolly have too. How much. I will say, it was a TON more than I expected. The price for 16 week, about $2000. OUCH!!! I did tell him that money was the deciding factor if I sign up now, however, this is something I'd like to do, I just may need to save up for it, or do a shorter program.
He talked about plateau's, and why I stay within a specific weight zone, but can't seem to go any lower, and freak out when it's high. I guess I am yo-yo'ing, but never thought about it, cuz it's usually only 10 - 15lbs. When I think yo-yo, I think 20+ difference. weird huh?
So, that was my experience. Now, to save up $1500-$2000 for this thing.
Would YOU do it?

Yikes is my first thought Cher! That's a pricey little gig he has going for himself.......wonder what the training is like to become a hypnotist? LOL
Kidding aside though, I'd really give this some thought. You know I think about the price of joining a gym- which in comparison is pittance really. That's a BIG chuck of money to fork over for a number of weeks. What happens after the program?
If you can, try and talk to some of the women he was talking about and get some feedback on it.
Big decision....good luck!

Y'know, I totally agree. For that money, you get hypnosis session, I think for the 16 week program, you get 8 or 9. And the other sessions are coaching sessions. To talk about how you're doing on the diet, program, etc. Answer questions, advise, point you in the right direction, etc.
Also with the 16 week program is 3 guarantee's. I can't explain them as I can't remember them completely, however, if you do the "success guarantee" you can tell your story in the paper if you want, and you get a 9 week session of other things, i.e. I could do the golf program, for free. OR you can continue your sessions as you want.
The other shorter programs dont' have that guarantee. However, I think about it like this. I have spent over $2k for gym fees, dvd's, products, etc
Cher, I would suggest trying to find some info on your own - the hypnotist - regardless of how ethical, upstanding, etc. he is, is only going to give you a review from someone who was happy with the product - you want to make sure you aren't getting a biased review.
I know. THe sad thing is, it wouldn't ever be a priority to save. So I"m sure it'll be save for this, save for that, THEN save for the hypnosis. Me and K are giving ourselves an allowance, I'm thinking, maybe I'll start saving it up. Its not a lot, but hey, at some point, maybe K will see how much I've saved and drop the rest w/o using it for other things. :)
We'll see. ONly time will tell. Until then, I guess I'm on my own to fight myself.

Oh good point. To find people w/o a referral. :)
I totally agree with your comparisons. However, I like to make these....
On gym membership, since 1997, I have paid approximately $2800.
On dvd's and the sort, I'm sure I've dished out about $300
On supplements (slim fast, drugs, etc), prolly over $500
All in the past 10 years or so. So, in 10 years, I have spent about $3600 on things to help me lose weight. Which none of them have. So, I'm going from a rational mental thougt process to a subconscious, cuz obvoiusly, my conscious mind is fighting me. lol. serioulsy, you'd think knowing I spent that much, OR MORE, and lost nothing, would make me wanna lose, but it doesn't.

Oh, I totally agree and I'm the same way. However, I have been ripped off already. Thousands and thousands of dollars and I'm in the same place as I was 10 years ago. So.......I dunno. Seems like something isn't working.
I have been searching for anytihng that isn't 'staged" but it's not easy. So...............more researching.
Also, so far, the people who seem to "fail" are those who quit the program. I dunno. I would think 16 weeks or less, is doable for me, because I can't see myself quitting THAT soon, does that make sense? Meaning its so short, I wouldn't get distracted. lol. But then again, that doesnt' mean I wouldn't quit.

I found this article and thought it was interesting. Now, back to my search. :) It kinda covered every aspect of belief, disbelief, and uncertainty.

Not Your Father's Trance StateHypnosis has entered the mainstream, but don't be alarmed that there's no swinging watch--this is a whole new hypnosis
By M.V. Wood
THERE WAS a little game Carly Batt use to play when she was young. Lying in the dark, trying to fall asleep, Batt would pretend she was bartering with God, deciding which body part she'd give up in exchange for being thin. She'd definitely trade in her left hand. Maybe kids would tease her for not having a hand, but she figured that wouldn't be half as bad as what she was already going through.
As she grew older and started noticing boys, the stakes grew higher. She'd lie there in the dark, imagining herself "slim and sexy, but missing a leg," she says. Then she'd compare that image to what she saw in the mirror. Given the opportunity for such a trade, would she take it? And that's how the game was played, for years and years.
"This is the first time in my life I actually feel good about myself," says 65-year-old Batt of Santa Rosa, who credits Positive Changes not only with helping her to lose weight but also with helping her attain an overall better attitude about life.
Positive Changes is a hypnosis franchise with 82 centers nationwide, including two in the North Bay, in Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park. Patrick Porter, Ph.D., the company's president, bills his business as the "first self-help franchise in the country." He says he's developed an advanced system of hypnosis that helps clients modify their behaviors so they can get what they want out of life. "Change your mind, change your life," one slogan says. That means dealing better with stress, or not smoking, or losing weight or even knocking off a few strokes from the old golf game.
Batt is thrilled with Positive Changes so far, but she adds, "I don't want to get too excited, because, who knows, I might gain all the weight back. I've tried every diet you can imagine, and I've been down that road before.
"When I started OA , I was just as thrilled about it as I am now about hypnosis. And I still think OA is wonderful; I learned a lot about myself. But I couldn't keep the weight off. Food was always on my mind, and I had to constantly fight and fight to keep from eating.
"But now, with hypnosis, it's easy. The very first night after I got hypnotized, I didn't want to eat hardly anything. At first, I thought I couldn't eat because I was so nervous, since I had signed up for the program that day, and it was a lot of money for me," Batt says with a laugh, adding that her 18-month plan cost $3,600 (plan prices vary). "But the next day, it was the same thing--and the next day. I just didn't have the appetite I used to. I've probably saved more money on food these past few months than I spent on hypnosis.
"I have to be disciplined and listen to my tapes," Batt continues. "But I don't have to be disciplined about eating, because I simply don't think about it anymore. I don't want to eat anything that's not good for me. I don't want to overeat. I'm not tempted. It's as if my mind, the way I think about food, has simply changed. It's a miracle."
