Newbie here, saying HI !!

Hi everybody. I'm new here. I have a good bit of weight to lose. Not sure how much I want to weigh in the end. I want to see how I feel more then how I look. Anyway, I have been changing my eating habits and getting some exercise (walking, water aerobics) as much as possible right now. I have lost 7-9 lbs. so far.(depending on how mean or nice my scale wants to be! LOL) I feel better already, no heartburn anymore, more energy etc.. It's amazing what a few changes can do. My job consists of getting up at 3:20 A.M. and sitting at a desk 9 hours a day. Needless to say, that hasn't done a body good. My hubby and I are finally taking a much needed vacation to Hawaii in about 6 weeks. and a cruise once we get there. I am so excited. It was the motivation I needed to get started (again) on this weightloss journey. I am looking forward to getting back into fighting shape and hopefully getting assistance from all of you to help make this happen. Thanks and good luck everyone!

Hi Miranda. LOL, on the vacation comment. I do feel like I am FINALLY on the right track in terms of weightloss. Some of the changes I have made are lots and lots of water, lower fat and calorie versions of some old favorites,(I ask myself what am I missing from the original version except the fat, calories etc.. that makes it an easier decision for me) mini meals and lots of healthy snacks,(fruit, whole grains etc..) I sit at work at a desk all day so I get up and walk 5-10 minutes alot!, I still have a cookie, chocolate etc... if I want, but just a taste, I go to water aerobics with my sister which keeps me accountable because I have to go if she is meeting me there, I just bought a new pedometer to keep track of my steps, I eat a healthy breakfast with protein, stop eating after dinner at night etc... There are alot of little changes I have incorporated into my life little by little. There are more but they are all basically things that everyone here has heard of I am sure. I think the biggest change though is the one in my head. It finally clicked and it's weird but it just seems much simpler than it ever did before to do this. I don't feel deprived of anything, I actually feel so much better than I did before that I would feel deprived of feeling better if I didn't do these things. I believe you have to be ready to do this or it WILL NOT work in the long run. I feel that everything is in sync now and I am going to do this once and for all. Good luck everyone and I hope I can be of help if needed. Take care.

Barb, it really sounds like you have a great grasp on what it takes to be healthy. Not denying yourself things that you enjoy is something we all need to do (IMO), we just have to remember the key word of MODERATION ;-)

Once again, congratulations on the changes you've made, proving that baby steps do indeed work!

Good for you! You're off to a great start with your first 7-9 pounds. AND you have some terrific motivation in your upcoming trip. That will be SOOOO fun! (can I go with you?) Keep up the good work, and keep working yourself just a little bit hard every day (you can do just one more minute, can't you? - that's what I keep asking myself!) Today I did weights and thought I'd get in just 20 minutes of cardio - - but I kept asking myself if I was really tired yet, or just wanted to stop because my 'time' was up. So I kept going for another 10 minutes and made it an even 30 minutes. I felt pretty good about myself for doing weights and cario on the same day (still working off last weekend's eating fest). So even an extra minute or 2 pushing yourself just a little bit more really makes you feel accomplished. Good luck in keeping it up!

Thanks Tonya, and sure you can come to Hawaii with me. The more the merrier. LOL. Keep up the great work with your exercise. We had a party for my daughter yesterday, so I know about the dangers of all that food and wanting to eat it, LOL. But I was really good (and busy). I got on the scale today and it had me down 1/2 lb more, so I am officially 9 1/2 lbs down now! YAY. Have a great day everyone!
