1. Get a pedometer and wear it all the time! You'll keep track of your steps and make an effort to fit in more steps each day!
2. Always wait 20 minutes after eating before deciding if you are still hungry. Most times you will find you are not.

3. Drink LOTS & LOTS of water!!!!!

4. Write down what you eat you'll be surprised how much closer you watch what you are eating and make better choices.

5. Watch your portion sizes - measure things out! Don't try to eyeball your portions, make sure you are really eating that 4 oz, or 1/2 cup!

6. Schedule your workouts just as you would schedule any other appointment, for example, write it in your planner. That way, you're more likely to keep that appointment with the gym, bike, jogging path, pool, etc.

7. Give yourself small, manageable goals to work toward, so that you can see yourself succeed regularly, rather than overwhelming yourself with impossible dieting/fitness goals and then feeling you've "failed."

8. Find an activity (exercise) that you ENJOY. If you are having fun, you will stick with it.

9. Don't worry about how long you are exercising for - 5 minutes of something is better than nothing! It's easy to blow off your workout by telling yourself you don't have enough time, but you can fit in exercise into any time frame - 5 jumping jacks, sit-ups during commercials, a longer walk to the mall entrance! Try to fit in something each day!

10. Don't give up! If you find yourself having a hard time sticking to that diet or exercise routine, give yourself a break. Or if you give into that donut urge, just continue your healthy eating at the next meal. The point is, your whole diet and exercise routine doesn't have to be blown to bits by one bad food choice or one day of non-exercise. Just get back on track first chance you get.

11. Don't think of healthy eating as boring eating. Try something new, a new veggie recipe maybe, using a portabello, or a dish from a different ethnic category like a Mediterranean dish.
