HELP!!

Hello! I am new to ivillage, I just registered. I am not sure how to start a new thread. I have a question about the "burn more then you consume" calorie thing.
I am 31 yrs old and I have four beautiful boys ages 11, 9,9 (twins) and six (will be 7 next month). I went back to school and in 3 yrs went from 120 to 160!!! Over the summer I lost 25 lbs, so I am now down to 135 (I am about 5'3"in height). I have been riding a stationary bike while curling dumbells and combining it with weights (squats and leg lifts) and a little sit ups. My workout started out at 30 minutes and now I have gotten up to 55 min and increased pounds on my weights and tension on my stationary bike.
I have also been eating right, about 1500 calories/day and watching fat calories. I have been looking around on the internet and have read many different sites. These sites suggest that I sould "burn more than I consume"! This puzzles me. It does not seem right that I should burn more then 1500 calories a day??? I am not sure how many calories I burn b/c I can find how many (an estimate) I burn while riding the stationary for 45 min. but I also curl light weight (3.3 lb) dumbells while I am riding. I have never really been into exercise. I have always been petite and small and never really had to worry about diet and/or exercise UNTIL NOW!!! I would appreciate any and all advise anyone can share!!! Thanks SO MUCH.

Yes it's true you could be burning more than you consume even at 1500 calories a day.

Thanx, island girl!! I have seen these tables before, but I am not sure how to calculate my workout into calories. I ride a stationary but I also curl 3.3lb weights while I am riding. I ride at a moderate-vigirous rate. I ride for 45 min. then I do 10 squats and 10 "good morinings with about 10 lbs of wieghts on a bar on my shoulders. THen lift those weights. I then do crunches and but lift things with my legs elevated (four sets of 10) then I do leg lifts with about 15 lbs of weight on my back then on my front, then I do stretches. My total workout is about 55 minutes. HOW THE HECK DO I CALCULATE THAT?? LOL!! Your reply is appreciated! And the article is too!!!! (I have lost 5 more pounds since my first post!!):-)
