Would you boycott a company that you felt promoted poor body image?
- Yes
- No
- I don't know
You will be able to change your vote.

By this I mean, if a company always used size 0 models with huge breasts to model their fitness wear, or if they seemed to use extremely young models for a makeup to cover up facial lines, or if they promoted young women's wear that would make Britney Spears blush.
I said yes I would and I think it would have to be pretty extreme. I know with my girls we talk about this stuff all the time Mary Kate/Ashley Olsen not sure which had the problem. So we use this as opportunities to talk about health and beauty.
I voted yes as well, because if we DON'T boycott these companies there will be no reason for them to change.
Okay I started on a rant in my first post but deleted because I worry I'm super sensitive and come off sounding more insecure than irate. lol
It just pi$$es me off to watch the commercials during the football games on Sunday. I ask my husband over and over again if he doesn't get sick of being talked down to by all these beer adds etc. They are saying men are so stupid that because some woman selling sex/beer is going to convince him to buy a product. Of course, he won't get into this conversation with me. One if he were to boycott a product he may not actually get to look at this crap. After all poor guy is stuck with me, right??? *rolling eyes* After all not only is she gorgeous I'm sure she would put up with his crap, not. I really wish men would get on board with this as well as women. Not enough women support women but I think as wives/daughters we need to have the men in our lives speak up.
Now I'd like to think most men don't buy products based on commercials but on quality of the product, not trying to bash men but as long as they remain passive this will continue. Martin Luther King Jr. said something in regards to....that those who do nothing are more dangerous than the people who discriminate. You know where those
You know, I'm really not sure. I mean I think there are definitely some companies (esp. clothing stores) I steer clear of, but not sure if I would actually boycott them. I usually steer clear of them as I know there's nothing in there that will either a)catch my eye or b)suit me. KWIM?
Now that being said if there was a company out there that made it clear that there clients should be "xyz" I might just have to change my vote.
Bottom line, I think it would all depend for me....

I voted yes, but I mean yes I would boycott them in the sense that I got a bad feeling from using their product, which I know is very subjective. Companies that use women in a sexual way to sell things like beer, as Gretchen was mentioning, I find that really disgusting and I agree that men need to not be passive about such things and realize that it affects them too in the long run! It has an effect on the women in their lives and on their daughters!
I absolutely voted yes. I cried when I saw the dove commercial during the super bowl, with the little girls where one says "she hates her freckles" "She thinks she's fat" etc. It totally hit home, because all little girls feel that way and it's driven home daily by other little girls, mom's, aunts, magazines, media etc.
I total gave to their self esteem fund. You can too http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/dsef/
I give any time that I think is a positive thing for our youth another great organization http://www.emagine.us/index.htm I don't make a lot of money but I do put what little money I have where my mouth is. and it also works in the opposite direction, I boycott things that I feel are detrimental to our society as well. I stopped buying Tabloid magazines I think it perpetuates that celebrity crazed lifestyle and fully support conscious driven magazines such as Marie Claire. They go after true women issues such as plight of women in africa and other countries and breast cancer, HPV etc. It's a small thing and maybe it doesn't do much if I only do it of course but I feel I'm a little voice, if I exercise it, maybe more people should, just like more people should start voting 3rd party in elections, we might actually see some changes.
