Weight Loss Plateau

Hi, my name is London and I'm new to the iVillage. Just a little about myself, I'm married with two sons, 18 and 13 years old. I'm 38 years old. I've been doing Hypnosis sessions for 6 weeks now and have lost 14 lbs so far, with 48 more lbs to lose to reach my goal. I've been exercising daily for 40 to 60 mins using an Ellyptical Machine, sometimes two times a day(due to the suggestions from the Hypnosis) :-) My problem is for the last two and a half weeks, I've lost nothing. I don't know what to do to overcome this obstacle. I've been taking in about 1200 calories per day, my calories burned (per the Ellyptical machine) is 450 to 690 calories. Any help or advice received will be greatly appreciated. I'm not completely discouraged yet, but I might be if I go another week without seeing progress. Thanks

I know abut plateaus, I think I'm the queen of them. First off I think you need to change your exercise routine. If you always do the same then you body gets used to it. If you can't get to a gym, buy or rent a dvd workout video and try and do that a couple of times a week. Also invest is some small weights and add that to your routine. Make sue that you are drinking a lot of water and make sure that you are eating the "right" calories. I just listed on a previous post that I had a weight loss doctor, give me a plan for the right way to get my 1200 calories a day and it worked. If you have any questions or want a sample of the plan let me know. Above all don't give up.

Hi Rainey,
I definitely feel that I'm getting the right calories. I've been doing 60g protein, about 25g fiber daily. I drink only one cup of coffee in the morning using Splenda as a sweetner. Besides the one cup of coffee, I drink only water, from 10-12 cups daily. I will definitely try to vary up my exercise routine. I guess it's a plus that I already have the weights and exercise videos. I just need to start using them. :-) Thanks for the advice.

WElcome to the board!
Wow! 14lbs. that's great!!! why is it I haven't lost a thing? darn hypnosis. lol. actually, i told my hypnotherapist that, that she messed me up with the first session. because she told me, in the tapes, to not worry about a thing, and guess what? Um, I wans't worry about not exercising, not eating good stuff, honestly, I didn't feel one pang of guilt of gorging on sweets. guess it worked. maybe not in the right way though. :)
i'll be excited to hear about your progress. you can always journal below. :)
I hate tickers......
but maybe it'll make me exercise.
Welcome, and congratulations on your success so far! Of course I have to chime in here because I have been on a plateau for a while myself. Like, a LONG while. LOL. You've gotten a lot of good advice ... I agree with Miranda that after a while, on 1200 calories a day, your body will start to think it's not getting enough and your metabolism will slow down. I found this to be true when I first started trying to lose weight back in January. The first several pounds came off quickly, and then I hit a mini-plateau. When I raised my calories a little, more weight came off! Sounds contradictory, I know.
Sounds like you are doing great! Hope you enjoy this board.
