Thought it was a great way to start off our week thinking positively...

Maybe it was the approving smile your teenage daughter gave you this morning on your way out the door or the pride in your husband's eyes the day you walked down the aisle. Maybe a friend or a coworker made a point of reminding you just how great you really are.
What's the most meaningful compliment you've ever gotten?

I would say hands down the compliment that makes me smile is "You're a great mom", and also when my son tells me (or someone else) that I'm a great cook!
Of course if someone tells me I look great on a particular day, I'll take that too! But I think because being a mom is something that I work hard at and take the most pleasure in, having my accomplishments as a mother complimented means a lot to me!
I should have pointed out that this

From one of the children in my class-- "You're the best teacher"- now grant it they don't have much to go on, but everything at that age is just so honest I knew they really meant it :-)
One of my friends and I had a discussion on what friendship is a couple of months ago and she said "you define what friendship is", oh were there tears, LOL!

That's a great one!! You know as a teacher I always try to have some positive things to say to parents at conference time. (They're coming up next week for us!)
That was very sweet of your son to do that, glad his teacher saw it :-)

BG that is a wonderful note to get from a teacher!!!
Good for you IG. As a parent of 4 kids who has always designed conference time to go from the child I'd get the most negative feed back about to the one I'd get the most positive feedback till last so I wouldn't feel so beat up and disappointed it is good to put something positive out there about a kid especially the ones that are harder to find something good about. Of course, I'm going on the assumption that the parent is doing their best and probably has a lot of the same struggles you do and just to hear the kid has a great smile can mean something to a parent. lol
Now that said do you as a teacher feel beat up after talking to so many parents? I'm sure in many ways it's as much a reflection on your own work with the kids as it is on the child's progress etc.
You know Gretchen, we as teachers sat down yesterday to orchestrate when to do sibling conferences, so we can get them done back to back. Most of my class (11 out of 20) have a sibling somewhere in the school! And to answer your question...yes, I'm pooped at the end of a conference day, and in dire need of a cold one ;-)
Luckily as I only have 20 this year I can manage to fit in 10 on each day. I usually don't take my usual 1hr lunch break, just two 30min ones. I find it easier to just "keep going".
The task of getting each conference prepared takes more time and effort. I begin that progress tonight!!
