Christmas Party

Oh great. So my DH's Christmas (holiday) party is coming up on Dec. 2. Whoa, that's WAY early. Which basically gives me 4.5 weeks to lose some weight. I would love to be able to fit in my outfit that I wore to Vegas last year. But that means, losing about 18lbs in 4 weeks.

I'm not sure if I should be exercising or not, due to my accident, however, I feel okay. I mean, my neck is stiff a bit, but not even as bad as sleeping on it bad. lol. I figure, I could always use those stationary bikes (the one at the gym, is more of a sit-back type, versus a real bike).

So, what're your thoughts. Will I have to be super good on food, and exercise like a madwoman to lose that pounds? And is it doable? at least for this? I would love to run, however, I'm not sure if I should yet. I don't want the pounding to mess me up (and not know it).

Thoughts? Advice? This could be a really good jumpstart. Which, btw, I still have yet to read the challenge.

Yeah, I know it's not healthy, but honestly, I won't feel comfy going to the party otherwise. I konw that's lame, but I'm dead serious. I feel really fat, and huge and not very attractive. So, I will say this, if I'm not down to at least 140-145 by that time, I'm not going. DH can suck it up. I don't even like going out anymore. That's how bad it is.

Cher, losing 18 pounds in 4.5 weeks may not be realistic in terms of being able to maintain that loss, but I think if you adhered to a diet like Atkins or South Beach or some other restrictive diet you would likely be able to achieve that goal. HOWEVER you would probably gain it back shortly after going off the plan.

If you are okay with that, then get on one of those plans and see what happens. You will have to adhere to the plan strictly to see that kind of weight loss though.

I agree with Darla, that it isn't really healthy, but over a short period of time probably won't do any lasting damage. But it's a shame that you are thinking about not going simply because you are a few pounds heavier than you want to be! Maybe you just need to find something you can wear now, instead of setting your heart on your Vegas dress (I mean come on, I'd never turn down an opportunity to shop!! LOL)

Let us know what you decide to do!

I know exaclty how you feel abot not wanting to go, but I think you shuld go with your dh. I'm sure he wants you there regradless of your weight. i agree with miranda that if you go on the South beach or Atkins you might be able to drop the weight quickly. You can also go to the mall and splurge by yourself a really nice outfit that flatters you, go somewhere where the sales people can help find something really nice, like those shows that oprah does that if you dress rigth you can look 10 pounds slimmer, well that wil help a lot, get a girdle to and get a nice hair cut and style, you will look great.

BTW, I did mean to say, "lose up to 18lbs". I'd love to be able to fit in the dress. I think I was 143 at the time. So, even 15 may be good, or just exercising may be good.

(I think I'm about to breakdown now..........ugh. Don't you hate when things catch up to you?)

If I was "a few" pounds heavier than what I wish I was, at this point, no, it wouldn't matter. The fact that I'm about 20lbs heavier is what makes me depressed. And well....

Okay, I'm going to, I don't know. I'm about ready to just start bawling. I think everythign is catchign up to me. The car, the accident, and yes, depression about weight loss, etc.

BTW, since I've gained so much weight. I hate shopping. Its depressing when 90% of things dont' fit you right. So, I'm not looking forward to that type of shopping either. I've always had that problem though, so, that's nothing new. But to be in the depressed mindset that I'm in now, I would probably want to hang myself with the dress. {shaking head}

I'm going to read whatever is in this thread and I'll come back to it later. Seriously, this isn't good. mental breakdown, here i come.

I can relate to you. Except backwards. I wanted to lose weight when I went to vegas and by the time it was time to go I was still 20 over. I went anyway but I will be honest it wasn't much fun taking pictures knowing I was bigger. After I came home I was so disappointed I vowed to diet and I lost about 22 pounds. Since then I have gained back 9 and I am on a mission to lose it before it gets out of control again. You would have to take drastic meausures to lose that kind of weight right now and without being able to excersise it will be harder. Plus if you are stressed from the accident and bored because you can't excersise it might be harder to stick to a diet. If it were me I would pick something nice to wear in my size, go anyway, then plan a new years resolution (if you are recovered by then. It's such a hard time of year to diet anyway, I would try not to be too hard on yourself right now. But I am sure if that is the only way you will feel better right now, you can stick with it and lose a lot of weight by then. Who knows maybe you will be happy with even 8 pounds lost and a brand new well cut outfit.

Everyone has made some great points and ideas so far Cher-- I first wanted to offer up some hugs and tissues :-)

There's probably a number of us who feel the same way as yourself, and probably more out there reading this (hello strangers!!), you know you can come to us. Sorry that you feel so down on yourself, but yea, it may be a combo of all going on around you right now, and I saw in some other post that AF is approaching, not helping matters at all!!

Perhaps by next Wed. you will feel a little better about the whole thing. I too have an event that will have me all dressed up on the 2nd (our school fundraiser)- which I still have to find something to wear for!! And I'm very like you when it comes down to the shopping thing. I see something on the rack that looks like it may look semi-decent on me, and when I try it on *reality* sinks in!

We can do this-- at least drop a couple of pounds before the events, and feel good about ourselves. You in??? Let's get our hair done the week before also!

:-)

Ohmigosh, I can tell that you are feeling so overwhelmed and unhappy right now.

I think it is a combination of things that you are dealing with, not just your weight. I would suggest taking a weekend to really pamper yourself and regroup and decide what goals you want to work towards that will won't overburden you with what you should or shouldn't be doing. If you're feeling fragile right now, take time to nurture yourself, not beat yourself up!

And of course we are always here to lend a shoulder!
