More Tips....

from www.calorie-count.com

Staying on track during the holidays

With Thanksgiving this week and more holidays just around the corner, it can be all too easy to cave to the temptations and derail your weight loss plans. Don't let the holidays throw you off track - try these tips from fellow Calorie-Counters!

Trick your appetite

Instead of over-indulging on calorie-laden foods, get your fill of the good stuff an hour or two before your main meal. Chow down on soup, raw vegetables, and drink plenty of water to prevent an urge to go to town on your favorite comfort foods.

Stuff the turkey, not yourself

Remember that there's more to the holidays than just food. Enjoying the company of family, friends, and your traditions should be more important than stuffing yourself on Grandma's mashed potatoes. That said, keep in mind those preparing the food have put a lot of effort and love into slaving over the stove, so go ahead and have a taste - just don't overdo it.

Analyze it!

Can't find that homecooked specialty in our database? Remember that you can use our Recipe Analyzer to determine the nutritional details of any homecooked recipe. You can even try variations of your favorite recipes to see how many more calories you'll be adding with that extra tablespoon of butter.

Do you have any to add to this??

See if you can get some family together to go for a walk after dinner - it gets in a bit of exercise, helps you to digest, and you aren't hopping from one big meal straight on to dessert - you may not be as hungry as you think when you get back!

Great one Miranda, and also a good quality time activity.

Here are some others to keep in mind:

  • Start the day with deep-breathing and meditating (if you meditate).
  • Take a walk before a meal, then one after. Or take a walk after dinner but before dessert.
  • If you bake cookies as gifts, walk them around to the neighbors' houses.
  • If you exercise in the morning normally, keep up that schedule. Just don't skip.
  • Buddy up with a family member. Walking is a good time to catch up.
