QOTW: Thanks or No Thanks?

Well you are all probably gearing up for the Thanksgiving holiday and then rushing headlong into Christmas after that. Holiday time is hardly kind to those watching what they eat!

So, what is your attitude toward holiday eating? Do you indulge, hoping to get back on the wagon afterwards? Do you try to keep things in moderation? Do you avoid get togethers altogether?

I try the moderation approach whilst avoiding get togethers as well. For instance, I will avoid get's togthers that are soley centred on food, but may go for the odd glass of wine or two.

Do you incorporate any fitness activities into your holidays? Going for a walk after dinner? Or skating or other group activities? (WATCHING football doesn't count, LOL)
I just go to the gym like normal.

How about those you visit with? Are they more or less health conscious than you are? Do they keep you in line or derail you?
I tend to be a bit more health conscious than my friends, although my partner is very good about what and when he eats. The one friend I had who kept telling me I needed to relax and not loose weight is no longer a friend, so I have great support system.

Holiday eating- we usually stay home for the holidays. I still eat in moderation. Yes we usually avoid get togethers, I'd rather stay home.

Fitness on holidays- I will still do my workouts on Thanksgiving. But I get too busy on christmas with the kids and their messes, toys, and wrapping paper. So I wont be doing anything on that day.

Oh, whenever we do visit anyone on the holidays, they do their best to derail me and try to get me to stuff myself. But I dont.

Great questions Miranda-- it's good to remind ourselves of these things BEFORE the holidays!!!

I certainly don't avoid the get-togethers....but I do try the whole moderation thing! I guess my attitude is to enjoy it, but being careful not to go overboard at the same time.

Mostly I try to keep up some sort of 'routine' (which is something that is still being worked on it seems, lol). The chances for group things is slim to none, so it's by myself.....and meet up with the others later :-)

Some are in line with myself, some are not. It's pretty much half and half.

- In past years, I would indulge but this year I plan to keep things in moderation

- I'm not incorporating anything out of the ordinary into my activities, just the same stuff. Packed up some exercise DVDs and plan to hit the gym with my dad one day!

How about those you visit with? Are they more or less health conscious than you are? Do they keep you in line or derail you?

- My family is way less health conscious than me. Fortunately my mom asked me in advance what type of foods the kids and I eat and stocked up for us!

Do you avoid get togethers altogether? -Moderation is my motto lately so I hope to continue that through the Holidays. No, I will still attend most functions.

-Not really, but when it starts to snow we'll be out more my DD likes to go sledding and sking, snow tubing. I've been walking more lately so I'll continue that.

How about those you visit with? Are they more or less health conscious than you are? Do they keep you in line or derail you? -Most of them are less conscious but their are a few who are also trying to keep it under control. If I'm going to derail it will be b/c of me not them.

In the past my intentions were always to try to do things in moderation, but it never happened. This year however, it will just be the boys and I so I know I will definitely be okay. I am not going to go overboard cooking 18 different dishes. Portion control is not a problem for me - it's the

Yes, I think that is a problem-- I mean really what's the need in 3 different sorts of potatoes?? Huh? And of course you have to try them all ;-)

Enjoy the basics Crystal!
