What Are You Eating?

I find that one of my biggest hurdles with dieting is that I just cant come up with anything appetizing and so I resort to hitting a fast food joint or getting some chocolate out of the machine at work.

It really depends on your likes and dislikes. I tend to have wraps for lunch, containing english mustard, lettuce, a few slices of lean turkey, and a dash of spicy bbq sauce on top. Tortillas are less calories and fat than slices of bread, so they work out great for me. All in all, it's about 250-275 calories for the entire thing. I will sometimes put a veggie burger in it (the kind I buy are 80 calories each) and will have that for dinner. I will also add in all my food before I eat it on fitday.com, that way I know exactly what it is that I am eating before it's too late.

Fast foods can be a downfall for me too! Typically I go home for lunch and I have like a few different lunches I'll eat.

Scrambled Eggs, grilled cheese sandwich, Lean Cuisine type meals, left overs. However, these I portion control etc.

For snacks I have a set list and portions that I take to work.

Trail mix
Fat Free pudding
Mandarin oranges in jello
Pria Power Bars
Special K protein bars
Bite size candy like Hershey kisses or 3 Musketeers
Honey Wheat pretzels
Whole grain cookies
String Cheese
Peanut butter or cheese on wheat crackers
Apples

This is my basic outline - after breakfast and lunch it tends to vary a lot.

200 Breakfast : almost always oatmeal made with skim milk - Quaker instant bakery trio: Banana bread (my favorite) baked apple and cinnamon roll (my DH eats this one). & coffee, my current favorite is Vermont Maple flavored.

300 Lunch : almost always Campbells chunky soup - spicy ones - chicken fajita, chicken and sausage gumbo etc. and an apple or a salad with light rasberry vinegrette( 60 cal for 2 Tbs - on a small salad I usually only use 2 tsp. it has a strong flavor); my other favorite lunch is a mini lenders bagel (from the 10 pack has 150 cal) with 1 oz pepperjack cheese melted on it with sliced roma tomatoes on top.

Okay, well generally I do well until dinner, which usually puts me over.

For breakfast I have a mixture of Kellogs Turboz and Post Fruit and Fibre, with a mandarin orange or 1/2 grapefruit, and glass of water, plus my espresso with splenda

Calories: 193

For snack I have a 1/4 cup of mixed nuts

Calories: 219

For Lunch I have either a chunky soup cup (usually chicken gumbo) with an orange, or a mini can of Chili Spiced Tuna with Edamame

Calories (Soup): 258
Calories (Tuna): 260

For afternoon Snack I usually have a mini bag of Pop-Smart popcorn

Calories: 110

Total up to Dinner: 782

Dinner varies, and I usually end up using up a lot of calories here. Sometimes up to 800 calories, so I'm not going to list all my sins!!! LOL

And I will say that that is without the occassional chocolate or chip snack in the afternoon on those days that just drag, and sometimes I add in a grapefruit or some crackers if they're around too.

You know I don't really have a typical day....but eat at pretty much the same time every day:

Breakfast; if eating at home something not too heavy (just can't fathom a big breakfast) at about 7.15. If I don't eat at home I get something like a granola bar and fruit in the classroom.

Snack; mid-morning at some point (about 10'ish).

Lunch; usually leftovers from dinner (today it's a salad, just realized I forgot to add that to my greens yesterday).

Snack; after school- something like crackers and cheese, nuts or fruit, about 4'ish.

Dinner; pretty typical- carbs, protein and veggie, about 7'ish.

Usually that's it for the day....unless there's a sudden urge for popcorn later, of if I've been really bad and picked up something sweet. Late snacks are at about the 9pm time.

My days are pretty uneventful...

Breakfast is usual coffee and oatmeal
Lunch is either leftovers or a lean cuisine pizza or panini with veggies
Dinner is kind of all over the place - chicken and rice usually though
Snacks are usually fruit, nuts or yogurt

This of course is when I'm "being good" lol

The Weight Watchers Board and South Beach Boards here on ivillage have recipe folders that I sometimes get recipes from!

Good luck!
