Too low? I would say that we do the opposite, especially for ourselves. Just look at new year's resolutions, I have heard the following or something similar: this year I will loose 100pds, stop smoking and run a marathon. Now realistically will those be met, not likely. Granted I do think we learn to set realistic expectations the older we get, but it does seem to account for why people joke that they have failed to keep their resolutions rather than succeed to accomplish them. However the later part of the quote is indeed true that when others push us, we do tend to achieve those goals. Humans need one another for support and motivation, hence why I know I come to this board and read all the posts. I don't feel alone in my quest and in a way look forward to sharing my success with others just as I revelled in theirs.
Not sure if I agree with you here Gretchen...I think we are learning to be more realistic in our goals, resolutions whatever. Though when it does come to expectations of others I can agree with you- I know I could expect more from others at times. (But often don't as I don't want to appear selfish or anything, do that make sense?)
There was no specific plan of attack for this thread JJ- so sharing a quote is fine! (And I love that one...I think it was George Bernard Shaw though). I have another on a coffee cup from Oscar Wilde (one of my favs....though not a real motivating one, lol) "I can resist everything except temptation.")
Not sure about this thread...
