I am an annoying dieter!

I have come to realise that I am really annoying - meaning that all I want to do is talk about exercise, dieting, and loosing weight. I find articles on obesity and bring it up in conversation. If someone doesn't bring it up, I do or I hope that they will bring it up so I can talk about it. I am even annoying myself! I do seek out other ways to express myself, bringing up history and current events, but seriously it all comes back to diet and weight loss. I even find that I am looking at people and measuring up how fat or fit they are. Yesterday I did make a great development, I went to a friends and did not mention one word about dieting; or does talking about how we were sore count? I did not mention weight loss or calorie intake at all, so I was pretty happy with that. So what do you do when you are enjoying your lifestyle but realise that you are talking too much about it, similiar to someone who just fell in love with a guy and drives her friends nuts by bringing up in conversation all the time (I am guilty of that as well). I am so an egocentric person lately that I want to ground myself for a week!

Obsession........or is it "INTEREST"?? I find myself getting stuck into a subject matter too Monet! (I don't really think about it too much, but I know I must bother people with the same topics over and over again LOL!)

Perhaps get a few books from the library on.....(just some ideas) Yoga, Vegetarian eating, detox diets....etc- in other words still on the subject you're interested in, but widening it slightly ;-)

Hey monet.. I think that we all do tend to talk about our experiences and events that are forefront in our mind. It's probably somewhat natural for you to talk about it a lot if that's what you are focusing on in your life. However, if you've 'even annoying yourself', then you are already well set to do differently. You're conscious of it, and if you really think people will get tired of hearing about it ~ I feel you'll probably make even extra efforts to talk about different topics. ANd maybe just talk about dieting and exercise, when someone else brings it up. ANd of course, you can be happy about pitching in on the conversation about it.

Yep, I think just the fact that you're conscious of this will cause it to lessen a bit. I tend to be the same way -- I get very interested in a particular issue or topic and then it's like I view everything through that "lens" for a while and I want to talk about it a lot. I write in a journal so some of my "obsessions" come out that way and then I don't talk about them as *much* with others. I like IG's suggestion of widening your range of topics a bit, still around the same central idea.

I think because I post here regularly and update my Weight Watchers account daily I don't really talk about it with others. None of my friends or family are actively dieting but they all know I am. Every once in awhile it may come up when someone comments on my food or when I mention a workout but that's about it

Thank you ladies. I have to say after reading your post, I really do feel alot better.
Going off to Campus and will not be talking about dieting. ;)
Granted I am going to the gym as well, so it might slip.

I'm sure that now that you're aware of talking about fitness/diet, the other ladies are right, you will likely not talk about it quite so much.

But I think that when it's something that has such far reaching implications in your life - and dieting and fitness sure do - it's hard NOT to talk about it. And I think that it's easy to become a little obsessive about it, because to be successful you HAVE to be a little obsessive about it. LOL That is what is so great about this board - we can talk and talk and talk all we like about food, exercise, weight struggles, and solutions!

I'm the same way. Now that I'm "back on the wagon" I think, eat, sleep and breathe "burn more than you consume", which is the truth to losing weight.

I am back to eating smaller portions, eating 90% healthy and shooting for DAILY exercise. It's a state of mind. In my mind, when I want to lose weight, THAT takes top priority! And no cannoli, gooey stick bun, Hagen Daaz or other crap can distract me!

I'm back. 15 pounds crept back on my body since June 2006. So I decided to start getting serious again before the summer.

I'm way ahead of the game this year. Last January 2006 I was 210 pounds. This year I'm 170.

It'll be a matter of time till I'm back to my old self.
