Fatty, starchy, foods............

Help me out here.....my hypnotherapist suggested I cut out fatty and starchy foods. I need you guys to help me with this....WHAT are fatty and starchy foods? I mean, I know the basics: sugary things, fried things, breads.
But, for an example, she always told me bananas aren't a good diet food. Neither is cereal (starchy). I should stay away from what then? I'm so confused. Even beans were crossed off the list. starchy I believe.
What do

Hmm ... I'm not sure about avoiding everything starchy and fatty ... some fat, at least,
Yes, I agree, there is good fats, so I'm not trying to avoid all fats, just fatty foods that are bad for us. Like you said, Ben and Jerry's, Big Mac's, etc. :)
I think that's a good way to figure out starches, white flour. or white stuff? lol. That's one step.
See, I'm with you, confusing, huh? I guess I could go look it up, however, I wanted to get your guys' opinion on what is "bad" versus, "not good, but still healthy".
I also need to sooooooooo cut down my cholesterol. ugh.
Thanks.
Hmmm, telling you to avoid starchy foods is a little confusing.
I mean many carbohydrates are starchy foods, but not all are bad for you. I think you are heading in the right direction if you look for your general starchy foods but find ones with a higher fibre content.
I mean, how likely are you to completely avoid potatos, pasta, rice, cereals, breads, and corn?
I would ask her what her concern is, is it that you are eating too many simple carbs so that your body is just constantly filling up on items that it immediately turns to sugar? (white bread, bleached flour, refined or processed carbs like rice cereals, etc.)? Or is it that carbs make up too much of your diet in general?
If her concern is that you are eating too many simple carbs, then look for items with a higher fibre content. These will be more filling too, so you won't eat quite as much. If you don't like the flavor then mix them with non-fibre rich stuff until you get used to it.
I would definitely clarify with her, though, what she really means by 'starchy' and where her areas of concern are.
I agree wholeheartedly with Miranda and Jill on this- sounds like your hypnotherapist needs to clarify the list for you- and perhaps give you a clearer reason for steering clear of the foods she mentions (like beans, which IMO are good for you, and full of fiber too!)
I'd be just as confused Cher....do keep us updated!

Oh, I totally hear you two, and I agree.
I would think the main reason she told me this is because I tend to crave breads, fried foods, and junk food (candy, cookies, cakes, etc). I'm a total carboholic.
She did mention beans though. Weird, because things like edamame are good for you, and that's a bean. I think, what I'll do is concentrate on the BAD starches (white breads, cookies, cakes, muffins, bagels, etc) and bad fatty foods (fried).
And work on the junk food. I think that's enough until I see her again. my goal is to be under 140 by the time I see her again. Thats in about , oh yikes, 4.5 weeks. uh-oh, need to do the 2lb thing fast. lol.(no not really, but it's a goal).
You know Cher I think (if you eat a lot of that stuff (breads, fried foods, and junk food) at the moment) by cutting back, and eating carbs from good sources, rather than simple (and fatty) ones you'll see and feel a whole lot different-- and if you keep up the walks too you'll be thrilling everyone in a months time!
Good Luck hon!
