Hi. I'm fairly new to the board and am trying to drop a size before my vacation in April. I typically hit the gym 4-5 times a week - 30 min. cardio and some weight training, but I'm not seeing the results I'm looking for so I signed up for kickboxing. The instructor claims I'll burn 1000 calories in 60 min. Woohoo!!!! Anyone else done kickboxing? If so, did you shed weight like the instructor promised me I would????? I plan to take 3 classes a week.

Good Luck MissBee- and good for you for signing up! I meant to ask you in your journal about your vacation....where are you off to?

As for the kickboxing the only time I've tried it was with the Billy Banks Tae-Bo series. I did the 'instructional' video and almost killed myself, lol--- it was probably because of bad form, but I never tried it again, and gave the set to a friend of mine. She loves it- though didn't have to improve too much with her body if you kwim?

I'm sure we have some kickboxers around here- they'll have some better words of wisdom for you. As I said though; good luck!

Hi MissB!

I plan on taking a cardio kickboxing in March after my body sculpting class is done.

My son and I went to a family kickboxing class - it wasn't a cardio class though and was offered through a local boxing club. I did find you used different muscles with the kick boxing moves - and I'm a big believer in trying anything once! Let us know how you found it!

I have tried kickboxing...and it's how I got in the best shape of my life. Of course, I've not been doing any of it in years...and I'm now in shape. Round is a shape!! haha!!

Seriously ~ the workout, a GOOD workout with work on bags really should burn big calories, but not quite as many as he told you. We thought it was about 800 an hour...but there are always variants there!

Try a couple classes...my 'Sensei' (karate instructor) said he'd never seen anyone's legs go from ok to wow in such a short time. (and it was MINE he was talking about).

Now...I'm almost inspired to take a kickboxing class again!!

Well - I survived my first kickboxing class!! And I'm looking forward to going again! It was a tough workout and I have huge bruises on both of my knees, but it was definitely worth it. I can feel it in my shoulders, back, hips, thighs and tummy.
I'll probably get a more intense workout next time because I'll have a better understanding of what to do.
I really hope this will whip me into shape FAST. I plan to kickbox 3 times a week and hit the elliptical or treadmill at least twice a week. We do core strengthing and tons of pushups in the kickboxing class, but I'll try to throw in some weights here and there.

Thanks for your support ladies!!
