Kicking Butt in Kickboxing

I normally do my cardio in the gym, but wanted to do something a little different than the norm; I used to do it 3 times a week back home, which was three and a half years ago. So now that my schedule finally allows it, I was able to get to a kickboxing class and made an awesome discovery. For a 33 year old, I can still kick butt when it comes to kickboxing.

I was in a class with all these 18-21 year old girls and I looked around and they were all huffing and puffing; some were groaning and complaining they were going to die. I then looked and saw a few of us over 30's and noticed that we were the ones doing to higher intensity options. It was so cool to be one of the top performers. :)

Yes that may sound egotistical, but it felt awesome to have the instructor exclaim that I had excellent technique! Granted I used to take kick boxing about three times a week (three and a half years ago), but it was great to be back in there, kicking high and punching out my stress again. Put that on top of out performing the younger girls and I was flying high all the way home.

I admit, I am competitive, but hey nice to know that just cuz you are older, does not mean you are not faster or better when it comes to fitness. I also wondered if that does not say something for the girls 13-15 years my junior; why in the hell are they all huffing and puffing when I barely broke a sweat! Well whatever it is, I felt great and I suspect I will feel sore in the morning, which I am looking forward to. Ironically one of my students was meant to be in the class; I was worried that I would do poorly. Now I would have loved for her to see me and hear the instructors comment. I think students should be know that their teachers can kick some serious butt. :)

So girls, don't fret about taking that class! You might just be surprised that all those hours in the gym has actually turned you into quite the class tornado!

Yea.....go you!! That is terrific, not only did you keep up with something you have not done in a couple of years, but got positive comments from the instructor and did better than your younger cohorts!

How fabulous!

She starts off with stretching, which I was too late to do. Then does fast under cuts, running in place, side kicks - kicking your hands when they are on top of your head. She is not as cardio instensive, rather she appears to be much more anerobically focus; meaning we did alot of stomach and kicking, but not too much jumping around. There was also loads of stretching, splits, etc, which I am used to, but kinda cool that I did them and had the younger gals looking at me and gasp.I am hella sore today, but loving it! I think that I will do my normal cardio afterwards and view the class as the weight lifting portion of the program. Granted I think I must have just been pumped up to be there and may change my mind after a second class and a girls night this weekend.

I am still stoked today! I was thinking, yeah I am 12pds overweight, but I am just as fit as the other little gals in the class.
