Hi everyone -- I'm new to this board but wanted to post and see if maybe you have some thoughts to share with me. I'm 34, 2 kids, great hus, and used to be really active. Now I have more excuses than I can stand. I'm not overweight but ready to start exercising to feel better, more energized, etc. I just don't know where to start and as the months drag on I feel more and more discouraged and TIRED! Any tips for how you guys made it a priority in your lives? Like most, I have little time and less money -- but really feel the desire.

Thanks for listening!

I agree with carriebgirl, start small and try to incorporate fitness into your life. For instance, I tend to cycle or walk everywhere; thus I know I can at least get 30 mins on the bike just going to campus and back. You have to get to where you are going anyway, why not ditch the car and use your feet instead. As for how I keep motivated; I weigh myself and I keep a picture of what I want in my head. I also use fitday.com to track what I am eating and my activities. You can track your activities or make a goal of it; give yourself little rewards when you achieve say a certain amount of minutes work out a week, etc.
I also think of how good I will feel when I am much older or heck even 6 months from now. I am losing very very slowly, but at least I know it will stay off.

So relax, take it easy, and do it at your own pace. You really don't need money to get fit, just the desire.

Welcome to the board by the way!

Hi, and welcome to the 30's board! Finding time with families, work and just regular life to workout can be tricky, but definitely something that you can do.....

Is walking (even with the kids) an option? Playing ball? Workout videos? (if you don't have many you can always check with your local library to see if they have any you can check out- or a video store) We like to use the term baby steps around here- keep it nice and simple- and enjoyable to start off with.

Good Luck- and looking forward to seeing you around!

Hi there and Welcome to the Board. I too have 2 small kids (6 year old twins) and work full-time so time is very limited! Even though I have a gym membership that has been unused FOREVER I'm REALLY in to workout DVD's!

Welcome to the board!!

Having kids does make it more of a challenge to find time to workout, but I agree with the other ladies - start small, and work your way up!

Some other suggestions are to put your kids into swim lessons if they are old enough and check to see if there are any adult classes at the same time! Or if they are stroller age, walking is a great way to get fit and not have to worry about the kids!

And the library can be a great source for exercise videos!
