QOYW- What's your Main Pitfall?

Alright, so I know we've had discussions on this very topic before (and darn the search feature, 'cause it's not working for me tonight)- but let's look at what we're doing and if anything is causing occasional stalling.

Yesterday I posted an article on "common dieting mistakes".....is one of them (or more) where you're falling behind on the road? Or is it something else?

What do you think is your biggest roadblock?

I think a big one for me, which was mentioned in the article you posted, is refined foods. I don't cook for myself very often, I try to go for what's quick and easy, and that's often refined! I need to get out of that habit. I definitely cannot tolerate refined foods like I did in my 20s.

Me too Jill-- just can't seem to do without them. I have tried doing whole wheat (breads, pastas, etc.) but just cannot get to enjoy the taste of them at all. It really is the pits.

(In case anyone missed the article, I've just edited it to add the link in the first post, and here it is again)

For me I think there are several factors....I seem to jump start a lot. The (I think) good thing is that I don't often go backwards, just sit at a stand still for a while- then (and it's usually after my period) I might see a drop of 2lbs or so.

My pitfalls are these:

  • Beer

  • Not enough strenuous workouts

  • Refined carbs

  • Inhaling food

I know if I increased my workouts, even just a smidgen, I'd see more results; guess I'm happy to make any progress!!

That's a good idea.....I'm also doing the 'stop and enjoy the moment' thing- savor the taste, etc....

I guess my pitfalls are:

Chips and not eating them in moderation. Even though I feel like I'm doing a lot better in this area I think this really ups my carb and fat intake.

Fast Food, high in fat.

Eating too much.

Hmmm, I actually have a FEW pitfalls! LOL

1) Portion Size. I am working on this, but still have to be careful not to fill the plates to the edges!

2) Inhaling food. My meals sometimes are about 15 minutes long and that's it. I loved the idea of having a sip of water between bites!

3) Rewarding myself with food. I'll do really well for a while, and then "treat" myself to a total pig-out because I "deserve" it. LOL

I know what you mean Gretchen- once I start on some good carbs (ie. nice, fluffy bread in the bread basket out for dinner).....it takes some serious willpower to have myself stop!!! (I'm getting much better at this.)

As we like to say.....

MODERATION IS

Miranda, I certainly don't think you're alone in rewarding yourself with foods! Last weeks mini challenge of thinking of a non-food reward was great!

My MAIN pitfall on a normal week is lack of sleep. I tend to get about 5 hours on weeknights :-(
