I hope everyone is doing well around here. It has been a crazy first few months of the year for my husband and I. My poor mom had a heart attack just after the new year. She's doing quite well now though.
DH's mom has alzheimer's, and unfortunately, she's not doing so well. Physically, she's not dealing with the heart disease and things that people in my family deal with, but in a way, I think this disease is much more difficult. It takes up a lot of our weekends, watching MIL so that DH's sister can have a break.
On the good side of things, I decided to join the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. I am training for the Bayshore Marathon and Half, in Traverse City, Michigan. THe amount I need to raise isn't too bad because there won't be an airfare. It's still quite a big goal, but it's for a great cause. My friend Rachel's mom has battled leukemia for years, and it's so hard.
The fundraising is tough; the training is too, but it's going OK. I did my first seven mile run this morning. Usually we do our long runs on Saturday, but I am going home to see my family this weekend so I wanted to do it today.
THe cool thing, after I finished my seven miles today, at the gym, feeling pretty good, I went into the locker room and a lday asked me if I was "the runner on the treadmill."
Ladies, it was so cool to be called "the runner." Who would have thought.
Hope things are going well for you all. I will try to catch up a bit on the posts.

Lorie I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's and MIL's health problems. My heart goes out to you and your family while you deal with an Alzheimer's diagnosis.
Great news on the half marathon training! I'm sure you are going to kick some serious butt!

Hi Lorie and Welcome Back. I'm sorry to hear about your mom and MIL. Good luck with the marathon training - that should help relieve some stress!
Nice to see you Laurie!! So sorry to hear about you mom glad she's doing much better. Family health issues can be hard to deal with.
Sounds like a wonderful idea Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training.
Thank you.
It's certainly hard work, this running thing. After one bad long run DH said, "did you ever have a bad HKD class?" He knew very well that I had, but I got his point. Still, in a way, I think this is harder. I haven't been able to be at HKD class much either lately. I went by Friday evening to say hi. I miss those guys, and I miss the stress relief and focus that martial arts brought. THis is a good thing for a good cause, but I'll be happy to get back to HKD too.
I hope things are going well for you guys.

Thank you, I sure hope so. As hard as the running is, the fundraising is just as difficult I've found, but I trust I'll make that goal too. I have some stuff planned. This may not be the best time with the MIL situation, but then it would be soemthing else if not this I guess knowing the way life goes.
I love your photo. Looks great!

Hi, IG, the marathon is on Memorial Day weekend. I just looked at the hotel we'll be staying at, now that I have decided to commit to the event for sure. It's so cool, up in Traverse City Michigan on the Grand Traverse Bay. I wonder if I'll be able to enjoy it. I'll be too nervous the night before and too tired after :)
We have just over two months, so I believe the hard work will pay off.

Thank you. I am trying to look at it as a stress relief. In a way, I think it adds some stress, but it's a good thing, and it is something that I really want to do.
I saw my family last weekend. It was so good to get away from the MIL stress. My mom seems to be much stronger and better. I hope both she and dad will be well for a long time to come.
I hope all is well with you too.

Family health issues are indeed quite a difficult time. I don't know if adding this event in now is a good idea, but if it weren't health issues, it would be something else.
I've learned a lot from this experience already. I know it will be worth it in the end.
Nice pictures by the way; you ladies have put up some very cool photos since I've been here.
