weight supporting, low impact & aerobic?

Hi, I'm sort of a lurker here. I recently gained some weight after changing my birth control method. Like 15 lbs in a few months. I am already eating responsibly so I want to up my exercise in hopes up burning more calories. My husband says that you need to get your heart rate up for at least 45 min several times a week. So I tried jogging. Unfortunately I don't have a gym membership so I was doing it around my neighborhood on the sidewalks and got a stress fracture.

One this heals I'd like to resume an exercise program. I've always enjoyed yoga in the past but know it's not aerobic. I also want something weight supporting to build my obviously week bones. Any suggestions for someone who doesn't have access to a gym? Can you get your heart rate up walking without risking injury?

Thanks,
Lisa

DEFINITELY! Have you tried the Leslie Sansone In Home Walking dvds? I recently discovered them and LOVE THEM. She has various miles and lenghts of time you can walk. She also has some that are with resistance bands or weights, etc.

In addition to Leslie Sansone - the Tae Bo dvds ALWAYS get me sweating!

Good luck to you and WELCOME to the Board!

Welcome Lisa! And I agree with Vanessa, a good brisk walk can definitely get that heart rate up! It's low impact and you can walk as fast or as slowly as is comfortable for you. And the suggestion of the DVD's is a great one for those days where you can't get outside!!

Hi Lisa, good to see you coming out of lurkdom!

I totally agree with Vanessa about the Leslie walks. They're great- she has such a variety- ones with weights included. There are slow, easy-you-into-it walks, to brisk 3milers, to even a walk and jog one. Seriously, check them out!
