What do you all think about them? I've heard they make cravings worse - do you believe it?

I'm a semi-frequent user of artificial sweeteners. For as long as I can remember I've drunk diet sodas when I do drink pop, and I enjoy the crystal lights.
I take splenda in my coffee, but regular sugar or honey in my tea (something about the taste doesn't seem to go well in my tea).
I've never noticed an unusual craving after consuming them. I'd say that artificial sweeteners
I am the same way - I love having a diet coke in the afternoon and all the new crystal light flavors are so yummy. Have you tried the cherry pomegranate? I love it, and there's no caffeine. I hope to sip that while making dinner instead of nibbling on goodies.

Oh yum! I've not seen that one! I drink more crystal light in the summer, but my fave is the Raspberry Ice!
I really don't like artificial sweetners at all...but decided that the occasional Diet soda was okay rather than having all those extra calories...but the sound of that new flavor of Crystal Light just might make me go out and try it!

Hi Rebecca (and welcome if I haven't welcomed you to the board already...I've been MIA (computer-less) for a couple of weeks, and just trying to catch up here and there!)
I too am a diet soda person- plus use splenda, at home. In work (I'm a teacher) I use whatever's available....though as of today I'm going to go back to not putting any sweetener (sugar, etc...) in at work. Worked fine today ;-)
Personally I haven't noticed any reactions to them...........

I tend towards the "granola" side of things, so I have a definite opinion. I think anything made in a lab can't be that great for our bodies. Sugar, honey and artificial sweeteners are recognized by our bodies the same way. Calories or no calories, our body processes them the same way. If you eat it, you crave it more. I think that varies from person to person, though.
Last summer, I was somehow able to give up Dr.Pepper and all soda. I credit it to drinking green tea sweetend with Sweet Leaf. There are a few varities on the market now, but they all come from the Stevia plant. Our body processes it completely differently than sugars and artificial sweeteners and you lose your cravings for sweets (except for that d-lish-ous dark chocolate!!) - I did anyway. It was wonderful! In fact, the only thing I still crave is dark chocolate at certain times of the month. ;c)
The FDA does not let it be sold as a "sweetener" but it's under "supplement" at healthfood stores and Whole Foods, Wild Oats, etc. It's been used in Europe for years, and diabetics use it regularly, too.
Here is a link with lots of information: http://curezone.com/foods/stevia.htm
And here is a link for one of the products: http://stevia.com/
The best tasting one is "NOW" Stevia Extract in an orange box. My DH is now a convert from Splenda.
That's my 2cents. Hope it helps someone.
Thanks for the info! I will have to check that our at our health food stores. I hadn't heard of it before at all!
I used to always have artificial sweeteners daily. I would use sweet and low in my coffee, would put crystal light in my bottled water etc... I stopped using artificial sweeteners altogether 2 months ago when i quit smoking and have felt much better. I've heard many bad things regarding the use of them and would not advise them. I would recommend, however, a healthy alternative called stevia. It is natural and comes from the stevia plant. You can get it at any health food store and I find does the trick for me.
good luck!
