Help - no motivation

Hi, all.

I am having some severe Spring fever and it is affecting my workout schedule! It has been so beautiful that I don't want to go to the gym (I usually go faithfully three times a week, plus I take walks at lunch).

I have been taking the dog for walks in the park, but I always get a better workout in when I go to the gym. Now, I just sit in the backyard and enjoy the weather instead of going to the gym.

How do I get back on track? I'd love tips for how you stay motivated and on track with your workouts.

(A few notes: I hate running, so that's out as an outdoor option for me. I also really believe in weight bearing exercise, so that's why the gym is usually the best option for me).

Hi, and welcome to the 30's board! It's funny to hear the 'negative' side of the weather warming up, but I can see where you're coming from at the same time. My suggestion is to treat your gym time like you would any other appointment- be it a doctor....or whatever. Perhaps scheduling them into your day where you can still enjoy the outside, like in the afternoon, and evenings is when you go to the gym....or mornings, if you're so inclined ;-)

Welcome to the board!

I know while the weather is beautiful it's hard to convince yourself to go the gym, but perhaps you can cut down on the number of days you go, and then do some free weights at home or get some resistance bands to use - which you could even use in your back yard!

Walking, biking, inline skating are all non-running outdoor activities that you may want to try!

Miranda and IG already gave you some good suggestions so I just wanted to add my Welcome to the Board.

I do like IG said - the 1st of the month I plan out all my exercises for the month and put them in my PDA. I'm more of a "morning workout person" so I can get it out of the way before my day gets started because in the afternoon/evening I can ALWAYS find something I would rather be doing :-)

Thanks, ladies. Morning workouts are a good idea -- I can still get in the workout and then enjoy the weather in the evening after work. Now, I just have to get out of bed. :)

Taking up biking and rollerblading is also a good idea. I need to invest in rollerblades and a new bike.

I did make it to the gym for the first time in a week last night, and it felt so great. I always feel so much better with regular exercise.

The other challenge is my dog. She's still a puppy and needs lots of exercise. So, I'm trying to balance her need for walks and play time, and still have time for a more serious workout for me. I work full time, so it's a challenge to get everything in and still have some down time.

I can only imagine what those of you with kids go through -- I am sure that balancing of their needs and yours is even more difficult.
