Starting Over. Yet Again.

I was doing so well, and then the hubby left for a business trip and threw my schedule into utter turmoil. He's home now, so I'm getting back into the swing of things. I have about 80 lbs to lose to hit my goal weight, and to kick start it I've registered for a 5k run in August. It gives me about 95 days to train.

This time, I can do this....

Whoo hoo! I was just reading an article this morning that talked about setting "destinations" as goals - like a 5K run, or lifting a certain amount of weight, rather than an appearance based goal!

I know some of the women here have hubby's that have odd work hours, or just odd shifts themselves, and it sure makes it hard to establish a normal routine!

Good luck on your goal!

Thanks, everyone!

Right now my training has me running outside 3 nights for about 35 minutes at an easy pace. I'm asthmatic and running outside will cause me to go into asthmatic fits. I run 2 days on the treadmill for an hour at a hard pace, as it's better on my breathing pushing myself harder. On Fridays I alternate between inside and outside, depending on our Girl Scout schedule. On the days I run outside, I do my upper body and ab work, and the other days I do plyometric sets. It's hard and time consuming, but having a tight schedule gives me little time for anything else, and will make it easier to stick to.

As for the 5k, it is indeed a charity run. It's called the Elvis Run, and it will be taking place 15 days after my 33rd birthday in downtown Dallas. And no, I really don't have anyone doing this with me. My friend wants to lost weight and all, but she is not into running, and she is wrapped up in her own life. So I'm by myself. :)

It sounds like you have a good training plan for the run! My mom is an avid runner and asthmatic as well. It actually does help to train your lungs to work to their fullest capacity, but you do have to be careful about building up gradually. Her asthma is actually a lot better now, but she can't run when it's very cold, or when there is a lot of pollen in the air.

Were you a runner before, or is this your first time running a 5K?
