Has your idea of weight loss / fitness success changed over the past few years? (maybe now you want to run a 5K when before you wanted to lose 20 pounds)

<> Before, I thought the biggest thing was numbers on a scale...followed by how I looked in certain clothes. Now I'm more concerned with how I feel. Do I feel young and healthy, like I can run and jump and *do*? Then I see that as more important than whether my jeans are size 16 or 6. By viewing this much differently and I don't get discouraged quite as easily as I once did.

When you are feeling successful what are you doing differently and how do you get into that groove?

<> I have to stay on track. It's not JUST walking/biking/swimming or doing a workout video...it's not JUST eating right...it's all of the above. For me, it also includes little things like flossing my teeth every single night...routine-type things. It is hard sometimes to stay on track because a few rainy, lazy days followed by a dinner party can throw me off. But I have to remember how GOOD it feels when I am "on track" and that helps me. I hardly EVER eat fast food, drink to excess, stay up all night - or any of that stuff that makes me feel gross and lazy (which I did all of the time in my teens and early 20's).

Are you feeling more or less positive about meeting your goals?

<> Right now I am feeling very positive. My current goal is basically to STAY on track and a more "concrete" goal is to really jog my 2 mile stretch instead of power-walking most of it as I currently do. I know it may sound lame...but I am overweight, and not the most active person, so this would be good, for me!

I grew up with crash diets being the way to go and never hearing anything about a healthy body image. Also, even though I never did Atkins, I find myself avoiding carbs without even thinking about it.

When you are feeling successful what are you doing differently and how do you get into that groove? I feel successful when I eat right AND exercise - I am an all or nothing, which isn't good when I have a bad day!

Are you feeling more or less positive about meeting your goals? I will tell you tomorrow after I see if these new jeans fit!

Hi Angela, welcome to the 30's board.....and indeed the 30's! You're right about this board (I've read your other posts) nobody here is really fanatical (perhaps at times.....but in general), we're real easy going and ready to encourage each other on.

Looking forward to seeing you about :-)
