Hey Gretchen, I don't use Whey powder, but there are two places in the grocery store I can think of where it might be:
In the Vitamins and Supplements section and / or diet supplement section
or in the baking goods section where they keep powdered milk.
I found a link with some info on Whey Protein Powder:

Gosh, I don't know. lol It's a like a protein supplement and I want it to add to smoothies initially but you can also add it to pancakes and stuff like that. Not sure what all you can use it in but I'll be looking for ideas.
Here's a link if that helps: Whey Protein Powder
I did find it at wal-mart, well sorta, found it with the slimfast and nutrition bars but they were sold out! Cost like $13 a container they do look like they carry vanilla and chocolate. I assume they would have uses on the container too.
Okay here is a better answer from my book The Abs Diet for Women
Builds muscle and burns fat. Whey protein is a high quality protein that contains essential amino acids that build muscle and burn fat. But it’s especially effective because it has the highest amount of protein for the fewest number of calories, making it fat’s kryptonite.

Hi Gretchen,
I know a bit about protein shakes and the like. I really do not recommend you buy them straight from the grocery store because, often, the ones most grocery stores carry taste AWFUL.
If you know of a supplements store near you, I recommend you going there and asking the sales associate for a whey protein powder that has the least sugar and whose taste is superior to the others. You might have to compromise on the sugar/taste thing, meaning that the nicer tasting ones have a touch more sugar in them than the others.
A lot of the whey powders out there, even those flavored in chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry, have an incredibly unpallatable bitterness and horrible after taste to them. If you know what an uncooked pancake tastes like, then you have a good idea of what the sub par tasting shakes taste like.
For a bigger tub, you are looking to spend somewhere in the $40 dollar range. This will last you quite a while, though.
I agree...I have one as my post workout/breakfast on the days that I am at the gym.
I use the chocolate whey protein after heavy workouts or when I don't have a protein bar handy. I admit, some taste pretty bad. I use the EAS Whey Protein powder and mix it in the blender with nice cold soy milk. When I've had a particularly tough workout, a glass of protein and soy milk keeps me from hurting the next day. A friend who is a competitive bod builder swore by it, and he was 100% right. I will also mix it with plain yogurt when I want something different, and of course get the low- or fat-free yogurt.
I get mine at Walmart in the vitamin section, and it's about $12-15 dollars for a large jar of it.
