UGH I AM SUCH A PIG! I started out doing so great, and lost six lbs. right off the bat (that left me with 24 to go). I was so motivated, set up my dh to watch the kids for 20 min. every morning so I can walk, doing great...THEN. We went to see my inlaws two weekends in a row. I ate like I had been without food for a month. I ate non stop both weekends and the week in between! Now this week my *friend* (that's a whhhhole 'nother story!) is adding some unneeded stress and work to my life because she is in a pinch. I want to be helpful to her but the minute I start feeling the stress - out come the M & Ms! My question gals...HOW do you stop yourself from overeating because of emotions?! That is the soul reason I overeat. And since we're never going to have no stress in this life, I need to get a handle on dealing with it. Any Dr. Phil's - help! How do you cope?!
Rebecca
P.S. Summer vacation starts tomorrow...don't know how often I'll be around with all the kiddies home - lol!

Rebecca, I feel for you! I'm a horrible stress eater too - so I don't know that I have the answers yet! LOL
I would say to try cleaning out your house of things you ordinarily snack on. I know there are just some things I can't have in the house right now because I'd go overboard.
Then go out and buy some healthy snacks and make sure they are handy - I sometimes will get veggies and cut them up and put them into baggies, or crackers or rice crackers and put them into baggies.
Or how about doing some deep breathing exercises, like when you feel stressed take 5 deep breaths, and go and make yourself a cup of tea.
That is the kind of thing that helped me quit smoking, finding some other response for those times when I normally had a cigarette.
Anyways, I'm sorry to hear you have a lot to deal with right now. Sending {{{Anti-Stress Vibes}}}
Those peskie in-laws do it every time. lol
I agree with Miranda prepare yourself and find some healthy alternatives. One thing I do for chocolate is I buy a bag of Hershey kisses. I set about 5 out on my desk and don't necessarily eat them right away if I'm not feeling the need but when they are gone they are gone for the day. I found trail mix though kind of high on fat is a good salty/sweet snack as well.
Another suggestion one which isn't easy and takes a lot of practice. You have to change the way you think about your in-laws. Are you going to allow them to control you behavior!!! Think of it as peer pressure. Don't let them make you make bad choices. If you can wrap your mind around this and start feeling empowered by walking away from a stressful situation without caving you will feel stronger, confident and successful. Again I know sounds easier than it is and when you do falter pick yourself up and dust off and get back on track as soon as possible.
Ugh- sorry to hear about all the stress Rebecca! I'd agree with Miranda- get those cupboards cleaned out. I don't usually have snack attacks when stressed out-- so don't have any Dr. Phil words to share ;-)
In the meantime {{HUGS}}

I agree with all of the above...also...try going out for a walk when you think you are in danger of gorging...or leave the room that actually has the food in it.
Brush your teeth......sounds crazy, but it works - When you start feeling the urge to snack, brush your teeth.
