One of the things I love about this board is that there's no specific diet we're all following- (not that there's anything

Hmmm, I generally am pretty good about finding low-fat, low cal alternatives:

Light Miracle Whip (better even than light mayonnaise, calorie & fat wise)

Splenda (only for coffee, fruit, otherwise I do use sugar)

Light salad dressings

Sparkling water instead of pop

Light Peanut Butter

Light or fat free puddings

Fat-Free yogurt

Lean burgers (frozen)

Light margarine

Things I don't compromise on:

Margarine for cooking - I never use light because of the higher water content

Steak - I do love my red meat, but do trim a bit of the fat off

Chips - I don't know if I've ever bought "Light" chips or other snacky stuff. If I'm buying junk, I'm buying junk to enjoy the full effect. LOL

Because my son Nic (11) is a little heavy around the middle, we've been keeping some low-fat low-calorie foods in the house. We've got some rice cakes, low fat yogurts, Mr. Christie "thin" cookies (love the oreo ones...if you haven't tried them, do so. You will love them!), and he occasionally drinks coke zero or other non caffinated drinks.

I don't eat anything low-fat unless I have to, but that's because I'm trying to gain weight...LOL

Things I won't compromise on:
Wheat bread and pasta
1% milk
Olive Oil and canola cooking sprays
No calorie margarine (Can't believe it's not butter)
Personally, I never drink my calories. Smoothies don't count because that's my meal
Bottled purified water

You'll always find:
Lean Cuisine
Diet Mt. Dew
Diet Pepsi Jazz Carmel Cream

Good point about the junk food Miranda- though I have to say that the light Pringles aren't bad at all. Not the ones with (shoot) what's the name of that oil- oilvera or something- those ones are NOT good at all!

Lean Cuisines
Lite popcorn
Splenda

Do you always buy certain low fat/salt/calorie, etc....items? Which ones?

2% milk
Low fat yogurt
Low fat mayonnaise
Diet coke

Plus which foods will you not compromise on? (ie. butter)

**Indeedy you will. In my pantry I have a canister of Slim-fast powder. I sometimes use it when I need something quick and easy for breakfast. Most everything I buy now is low fat/low calorie. All three of us are getting a bit think in the middle, so I do what Ican to lighten things up when I cook.

Do you always buy certain low fat/salt/calorie, etc....items? Which ones?
**2% milk for the family, soy milk for me. Whey protein powder and Clif Bars for me. Whole wheat spaghetti noodles. There's a bunch in there.

Plus which foods will you not compromise on? (ie. butter)
**Actually, I get light butter since I mainly use olive oil when I cook. I won't skimp on spaghetti sauce. And I'm sure there is something else, but I can't think of anything right off the bat. Oh I know. Every once in a blue moon I get a craving for peanut butter Cap'n Crunch and M&M trail mix. :)

HI all..just stopping in here to answer this one.
I skimp on very little ~ I only buy 2% milk, but rarely drink any of it anyway. I am starting to experiment with lower fat cheese, but most everything I buy is not reduced fat or anything ~ just trying to watch the portions of it..

But one thing I actually won't buy the regular version of is Pop Tarts. I don't buy them very often at all ~ but if that's something you gotta get into your house...the Low Fat version is actually SO much better.
