Need to lose weight- feeling depressed

Hi everyone,
I was hoping to get some advice. I recently had a son 7 months ago to be exact. I have a 5 year old daughter as well. I work full time, started my MBA program and I am losing my mind because I do not have time to work out. I tried the South Beach diet and it was great the first phase but I am back at my starting weight and it is very depressing... I know it takes time to lose the weight you gain from pregnancy but I've been trying to eat right- 2 fruits a day, 2 glasses of lowfat milk, multi-grain bread 3x a day veggies, etc. and have not noticed a change in weight in over a month.

Please offer some helpful ideas/workout routines/eating habits and let me know what worked for you.

Thanks in advance
Chami

I'm kind of in the same boat and just stuck and finding time to workout is the most difficult.

My advice is be as pro active as you can. Just eating right and taking 20 minutes for a walk makes me feel like I'm working in the right direction.

Next week I'm going to try taking off work a half hour early so I can get 30 minutes in at the rec. center before I have to pick up my youngest at day care and won't have the interference of the rest of the family at home. Not sure it will be enough but better than nothing.

Keep trying different ways to get your workout time in. After the kids go to bed, get up early (I try this and never works lol), during commercials, or whatever you can think of that will work with what you've got going on in your life.

Hi Chami- welcome to the 30's board! Congratulations on your baby- sounds like things are keeping you busy these days.
If you wander on down to our journal section you will see what many of us are doing- and how we're dealing with life's little struggles.....we all have them.

Do you have any workout video's at home? Do you walk? What sort of exercise are you interested in doing? Gretchen's suggestion of 20min walks is a great one to start with- even if you have to break that into increments. It all counts.

I'm sure some of the other ladies will have more ideas.....again, welcome aboard!

Such good exercise advice Gretchen! Finding the time to exercise is also my biggest obstacle. I have four girls, ages 10,7,3, and 4.5 months. I have kept a tremendous amount of baby weight to lose, and it's very depressing. There's just SO MUCH to do - time for myself for anything at all is tough! So chami02, (((hugs))). You're certainly not alone!!!!

Hi Chami and Welcome to the Board. As a single mom with 7 year old twins and a full-time job I can relate to how you are feeling. What works for me are the morning workouts! Also - I plan my workouts a month in advance in my PDA (schedule them just like an appointment) so I don't wake up and stand in front of my dvds each morning debating what I want to do. I'm a dvd exercise freak which also helps me get my workouts in because I don't have to worry about getting to a gym, childcare, etc. On the mornings I don't workout, I push the appointment to the evening for right after the kids go to bed before I even get a chance to sit down and get comfortable! lol

I've done South Beach too. I did well too but it sure was a lot of planning and I really missed my carbs. I had GREAT succees with "The Extreme Fat Smash Diet" by Dr. Iam Smith of Celebrity Fit Club (lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks) - it's not too different in the basic eating principles from South Beach BUT it lays out a day-by-day 3 week eating plan of what to eat which made it SO easy for me AND it lays out the exact minutes each day you should be doing cardio.

Okay - enough rambling lol

Chami, welcome to the board! You certainly have a lot on your plate right now! I know you've gotten some good advice from the women already, so I'll just add my welcome!
