Hi everyone! I'm really new here. From what I read on here everyone is really supportive and I think thats what I need right now. Im 35 and need to lose about 30 lbs. I quit smoking a little over 2 years ago and the weight has just slowly krept up on me. I have been trying to lose it for about a year and I just stay the same 154 lbs. I would never even tell my husband how much I weigh. I know it really isn't that much compared to how much some other ppl need to lose but to me it seems like a million! Because I can't seem to lose even 3 lbs without just gaining them back 2 days after I lose them. I was walking 4 miles a day....did that for 2 months. Didnt lose ANYTHING. I get discouraged and give up. My eating isnt over the top. At least I havent gained anything in a year...lol! Any advice???

Hi there, and welcome!


I'm not sure if you've heard of fitday.com or not, but it's a great site where you log in your food and it lets you know where all your carbs, fats, proteins, etc....are coming from. It might be eye opening to see it in black and white.


What sorts of foods are you eating? Getting out and walking for 4miles is great-- I hope you didn't stop just because you weren't losing weight- there are so many other benefits to walking and getting in shape!


You're right.....it is easy to get discouraged- keep in mind (and this is something we like to advocate here) this is a life journey you're on, not just one for 6-8 weeks ;-)

Welcome to the board! Isn't it crazy how our weight can creep up on us until one day we look at that little needle on the scale and just about jump out of our skins??!! LOL


I agree with IG - tracking your food carefully can go a long way to changing some unhealthy habits. And measuring! I can't believe what I used to think a serving was for somethings, when it actually turned out I was eating 2 or 3 servings of something. And of course it was never what was good for me.


Also take a look at where those calories are coming from. I do notice that when I keep my protein and fibre up I'm more likely to drop pounds.


And definitely take a look at the challenge - it's nice to have something that helps keep us focused on our goals!

Thanks so much for the info about fitday.com. I went there today and filled out all the information and you were right. It was eye opening! LOL I see now how Im not losing weight! I'm eating just a little under the amount of calories I burn, and to top that off Im not getting all the nutrition I should be so no wonder I have no energy! I think Im going to get a multi-vitamin tomorrow...lol

Yeppers yall were right about the food....very enlightening experience! lol...Ill check out the challenge but for right now I think fitday has got me thinking! and I like the Idea that Tara had to pick somewhere to walk to. I think Im going to do New York.

The challenge we're doing really isn't all that involved. Basically there are 3 elements to work on- Food, Exercise & Water. Although we're just wrapping up week 3 it's the sort of challenge you can join in with at any time!
