Too much water?

Is there such a thing as drinking too much water? I drank 70 ounces of water today and I feel and look so bloated! I look like I'm pregnant! I believe someone on this board wrote a way to figure out how much you are suppose to drink for your body. I think it was half of your body weight in pounds. Is that right? Does anyone else feel like this after drinking their water intake?

Lori- you know there are just some days where water will do that to you. There are several 'rules of thumb' out there now....so it's hard to know for sure; how much?

I would say not less than 60-64oz is ideal. Some say half you weight....others say the 8x8 glasses, others say more.

Here's a couple of links to help (confuse you even more- LOL)

I believe the water intoxication really only affects those who hydrate themselves faster than us 'regular' folk (like marathon runners).....plus I think you'd have to drink a helluva lot more than 102- there's a number of people I know who drink about that much- and they're fine ;-)

I think that most of "regular" folk will never have to worry about too much water.

I agree - there have been days where I'm close to 100 oz, and I've been just fine. I think that you might feel bloated if you normally don't drink a lot of water and then suddenly increase your intake. Your body will need to adjust to drinking more gradually.

How long does adjustment usually take from hardly any water to a lot of water? Or is each person different?

I think everyone is different, I know a few women here have a hard time drinking a lot of water, and then there are others who regularly pack away 70-100 oz a day without feeling any discomfort. Try increasing your daily intake by 5 or 10 oz each week, working your way up to around that 64 oz mark.

hey ,

I just popped in because I saw this question. Yes there is such a thing as drinking too much water. first you have to make sure your getting all your nutrition because you can wash out all your electrolytes which your body needs. I was drinking a whole lot of water wound up needing potassium and found myself I in the hospital cause it was causing me to have pvc's( I think that's what they called it) I had to go thru a bunch of heart test
