Has anyone ever did this program? I decided to buy some sort of log, that would give me some kind of inspiration, that wasn't a computer program. lol. As much as I love my spreadsheets, I came to realize I just got bored by it and wouldn't keep it up and well, would kinda turn into me ignoring everything. So not good.

I saw this log book and everday they have some sort of real-life success story and a tip for the day. I liked it, and of course, started to realize there was more to just that log book.

It's a 12-week program, and I just started it and just finished reading the book. I was curious if anyone else has done it, AND how successful was it for you.

Thanks.

My girlfriend is a big fan of body for life - she had quite a bit of success on it. I'm not sure if she was using the supplements or not, but she had to be very dedicated to teh workout regimen as well. She still follows a lot of the dietary plan even now!

Thanks Miranda. I didn't see anything about supplements, but then again, I only read the Body for Life for Women book and not the original plan, so that could be the difference. I think the best thing to hear was that your friend still incorporates things she learned into her life..so that it's a lifestyle CHANGE and not just a diet.

Hi Tara,

I'm not 100% sure what Fit for Life is, I just know I picked up the book and sadly, was like, there's no pictures. LOL. Then I picked up the log book and was bored completely by it, so I put it back. Isn't that the guy that trains Oprah?

Anyways, as much as I could understand from the Body for Life was that it's a 12-week program where you do cardio every other day, and weight training the other days. You do weights for 46 minutes, so it's actually an anaerobic exercise. And cardio is 20-60 mins depending on your level of activity. It also talks about what to eat. You pick something from group A, group B and group C per meal. i.e. Group A is what they call Smart Proteins (eggs, fish, meait, etc). Group B is Smart Carbs (veggies, fruit, grains), Group C is Smart Fats (nuts, avocado, etc), and you get Group D which is Smart Snacks and Group E is junk food. That group you are NOT supposed to eat out of.

I think overall, it's the same things most books would teach. The bigger thing is getting past that hump that we all have. i.e. it talks about making excuses for exercising and what to do to help combat that negativity. I won't say it'll work for everyone, but I liked what it was saying/doing, so I think it should work for me. I also liked all the success stories. The main thing it talks about is breaking that barrier of WANTING to lose weight and be healthy, to DOING what you need to do to lose the weight and be healthy. I'm not at that crossroads yet, but I like reading about other ppl who have had it "click" and they made that change.

I did the Body for Life (original) program a few years ago and had great success on it.

Oh cool. IYO, why did you feel the workouts were too intense? Also, I'll be doing this at home. I'm going to probably get some weights, as DH wanted some too. And I have an elliptical machine, so I'll use that and probably ride my bike to change up the workouts. I also intend on using some dvd's too.

Do you feel the supplements helped? I probably won't do them, except maybe a protein bar here or there, but just thought I'd poke your brain. :)

One more question, I haven't thumbed through the workout book, however, I was curious.....did the workouts change? Right now, it's 20 mins, and the intensity creeps up every minute, then goes back down, then back up, etc. Is that how it is throughout the entire thign?

TIA.

I just started poking my head around the site, but haven't found anything different than what the book tells me. I'm curious, why didn't you buy either book? Wasn't interested? Nothing caught your eye, etc?

I ask, only because obviously, different things work for diff people, and I'm thinking, this just might work for me. :)

The workouts aren't TOO intense but they are intense.

I totally see what you mean about the weights and changing. If you had a typical dumbbell that you have to screw off the end, put a weight on it, screw it back on, then yeah, not enough time. I'll have to rethink what I'm buying....or just buy 6 diff dumbbells for the weight change. lol. I don't have a weight bench, so I'll probably make-do with what I have.

Okay, I don't have an 11 month old, so I'm sure I can get the workouts in, I just need to wake up a bit earlier. lol. I can totally understand why you wouldn't have time for a 45 min workout.

I think this round, I'll try and do what I can with what I have. And next time around (I'm sure I"ll have to do this twice), do what you're doing, using the dvd's and the sort. I put it this way, I figure if we're doing weights and cardio and eating better, then that in itself is a good thing. Even if we're not following it strictly.

The one thing the "women" book says is "this is not about perfection, no human is perfect". So yeah, we have cheat times. Not sure when, but at least it tells you what to eat or try to eat cuz it's a better choice. And to not get angry with yourself, because you did cheat, because hey, no one's perfect. I really liked that, because WAY too many women are hard on themselves (myself included) about screwing up "being good and eating right and exercising". KWIM?

Thanks again for the info. I'll be sure to contact you if I have more questions. :) or post here.
