Exhaustion/Overdoing it?

I was wondering. What would you say are "symptoms" of exhaustion or overdoing it?

Obviously, I started this 12-week program and I went from exercising 3 days a week, to 6 (including 3 cardio, 3 weight training sessions). The first week, I felt great. Very energized, etc. Today, I was falling asleep on my way to work. This is after sleeping for 12 hours last night, and doing 20 min cardio this morning. I feel very tired.

If I am overdoing it or exhausted. What can I do, so I can remain on this program, but obviously, regain some rest/energy.

Thoughts?

Might you have over slept? 12 hours is a long time - generally 7 to 8 hours should have you feeling refreshed, but sometimes if you sleep too much you can feel sluggish.

Are you eating according to the plan?

I should've mentioned I felt like this Sat and Sun morning also, and I didn't sleep a long time either. lol. Oops. But yes, I agree, too much sleep makes you sleepier.'

Miranda: I hope I'm not coming down with anything, and as far as I know, I'm not close to TOM. Wish I could use that as an excuse. I'll be sure to take some extra Vit. C just in case.

Angie: I didn't think that I wasn't getting enough protein, but maybe I am. For lunch, I ate some tuna and crackers. I need to eat somethign else as I know I'm a bit hungry still. That was more like a snack, versus a lunch. I will definitely look more into my snacks. versus eating only fruit. i'm thinking the pb and celery sound good, as does the hummus and bagel. I definitely need to get more protein in my diet. lol. breakfast doesn't typically have protein, or doesn't have carbs.

I guess, it's time to follow the food better. lol. Which is what I'm doing this week. or it's my goal. i'm going grocery shopping tomorrow, so I'll pick up more things from each group.

Cher~~ sorry to hear you're feeling sluggish recently. Both Miranda and Angie had some good thoughts- the 'too much sleep' thing came to my mind too, but Angie's point about protein is definitely one to take into consideration....and since you're working out in the morning you might just want to do a more nutritionally balanced brekkie ;-)

Protein is tough to get in.

I decided to go the protein supplement route as well, since I was struggling with how to have more protein without also increasing my fat intake. I had a few Scan Diet soy protein chocolate shakes left from a couple of years ago and had one last night. It actually tastes pretty good. Perhaps that might be a good alternative to your protein powder that doesn't taste very good?

I think that's a smart thing. I'm thinking of setting up some simple recipes for breakfasts. Even if it's just a scrambled egg and some cereal or something. kwim? That way, I get more protein in, right after my workout. And get some carbs for energy. Now I wonder if the book said anything about what I should eat after the morning workout. Hmm....

I'm glad I could motivate you to lift weights and be sore with me. What a friend. lol. I had a protein bar this morning, instead of breakfast. I'm wondering if I should eat that every morning, but then toss some fruit in or something. Versus buying protein powder since I already have the bars. I do have some protein powders leftover from before, so I'll have to see if I can find it. however, those are also meal-replacement things.

Let's hope this dedication sticks. So far, the working out and weight training is going well. Now, to work on my food intake and stuff. >That's the part that's always the hardest part.....in the long run. I mean I love fruits and veggies and meat, but getting it all in, in healthy proportions is the problem I have. lol.

Thanks. At this point, if they can come in single packs, I'm willing to try anything. I know I need to really work on my food intake, and like you, I tend to pack on the fat grams when I eat protein. So, trying to find something lower in fat. I'm sure those shakes will do it. Just need to find one I can tolerate (or at least find my old Myoplex ones...now where are they?)
