Slow Results UGHHHH

Hi all, Thanks again to everyone who helped out with the sluggish issue. I started drinking those high protein Slim Fast Mixes and have noticed an improvement.

Now I just need to vent because I have been working out like a fiend for 9 weeks now. Running a mile 5 days a week, and walking 3 miles 7 days a week.

Not only have I not lost weight, but have gained 5 pounds!!! I am patiently waiting for the big turn around which I know is coming soon, but starting to get frustrated.

Thanks for listening.

Later, Windy

I'm going through a plateau right now too.

Ladies,
Take it from someone who has taken about 16 months to lose 24pds that the slow way is the best way. Granted there are months when I don't drop anything, then swoosh it drops...what is better is that I have stabilised/maintained. The deal is that you can lose all the weight you want, but you also need to make sure that the weight will stay off. Look at the plateaus as times to stabilise, to make sure that you are in fact in control of you weight. When I want to bust it open, I shave off a couple hundred calories, to about 1200-1300 and I start to drop again.

As for Windy,I wonder if its not muscle or are you getting your period? I also noticed something, I don't tend to lose weight when I drink diet coke, perhaps cut that out and perhaps you won't be retaining water.

But seriously, what's a month or two when you have the rest of your life to be thin, it will happen and statistically the longer it takes to come off, the longer it will stay off.

Thanks for your responses.

I have not implemented weight training as of yet, but my fiancee does have a bowflex so it would be easy to do. I am going to have to come up with a new workout regimen soon anyway because I am currently on summer break from teaching, and my busy time is about to begin. I have already started working in my classroom.

As for the pop issue, I don't drink it. I'm a big water drinker, always have been thank God, or else I would be as big as a house.

I'm mostly concerned because I know I won't have the time to work out like I am now, once school starts. So if I am not losing the weight now, I'm afraid I won't lose it at all.

I am excited about starting work again though so maybe the positive attitude will help.

Here's hoping...

Don't fret! You are doing all the right things, sometimes our bodies just take longer to adjust to a new routine. I know Dr. Bob (Oprah's guy) said that it isn't uncommon to gain water weight when starting a new fitness regimen, so just hang tight, keep doing what you're doing, and ignore the scale for a while.

Also, are you eating/drinking anything with a high sodium content? Sometimes what we eat can cause us to retain water, which might be part of the problem.

Hey Windy....is your break almost done (from you comment about being back working in the classroom already)?

I would agree with the others; take your measurements- how are your clothes fitting these days, a little looser perhaps??

Hang in there~~

Is it possible that you're taking in more calories than you might think? Sometimes I'll have an extra snack or two after I exercise because I figure I probably A) need the extra calores and B) I've worked up an appetite!

Just a thought -- you may have your caloric intake completely under control, but that's usually the first thing I investigate when I notice I'm not making progress.
