How do I find the energy?

Good morning everyone,

I am having a hard time fitting or wanting to fit regular exercise into my day. I am 39,married, work full time (8am-5pm m-f) and have 3 kids (2 girls 16/14 and boy 10). I wake up at 6:30am everyday and am usually fast asleep in bed by 11:30pm. By the time I get home from work, fix dinner, clean the kitchen, do laundry etc etc I am exhausted. I walk to and from work in the morning and at lunch time but it's a very short distance(only about 3 blocks). I would dearly love to tone up/lose about 25lbs but need motivation to find the energy. Any suggestions or ideas?

Welcome,

How do you feel about getting up an hour early every morning? That is what I am going to do once school starts so I have time to fit it in. I am 36 divorced/engaged running kids back and forth between school, ball games, visitations, etc., plus I teach preschool. I know how hard it is to fit in everything, and I will have to get up at 5:00 am, but I know it will be worth it.

I would say the best thing to do is start out slow, and make sure you get the right amount of food/protein to stay fueled, and get lots of support.

Good Luck.

WElcome to the board ladies! Fitting in time to exericse is a difficult one for many women - there are just so many things that seem to take priority!

I would say perhaps you have to sit down with your family and explain that you need to carve out a bit of time for you and make a schedule of some tasks that they can take off your plate - perhaps they can help clean up the kitchen while you do a 1/2 hour DVD.

And don't discount the walking - even though it isn't a long distance it is something. Can you get out during your lunch hour?

I know I have the best intentions about getting up early in the morning and it seldom happens, LOL. I'm a single mom who works full-time and and goes to school, so while I get up fairly early I don't exercise but relax and read the paper instead, because that's MY time. LOL

Glad you found us here, I'm sure the women will all have some great ideas! They are wonderfully supportive!

Hi Roxie, and welcome to the board :-)
The previous ladies have given some great advice and thoughts (like always- they're all so great!) I would agree with getting the family to help out, and trying to work out soon after being done with work. Your morning walks are a great thing to be doing; don't think that just becuse they are short they don't count.

If you can get in two good workouts on weekday evenings, it also leaves you with time on the weekends to get one or two more 'good' workouts in too. Look at everyone's schedule and figure it out- then go to the table (so to speak) and talk to the family about it.

Good to have you here!

I'm an advocate of the early morning workouts. I'm a single mom of 7 year old twins who works full time with an hour commute each way. So by the time we finish with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, soccer, homework and/or whatever else is going on it's time for dinner, bath and kiddos to bed. Then sometimes I sneak in
