Need to drop 30-35 lbs!

Hi Everyone!

I'm 30 and struggling to lose some pounds before my wedding in 6 months. I've decided to cut out fast food (which I usually LIVE on since it's convenient and I'm not much of a cook!), soda, and generally eat mainly fruits, veggies and lean meats (or even fish). I've also started running on the treadmill. I do a 3 minute walking warm-up, followed by 7 minutes of jogging. Then I just alternate walking/jogging for 3/7 minutes, respectively until I've done 2 miles. I'm a former runner, but I've put on about 35 lbs. and turned into a total couch potato since my running days. I hope to shed those pounds and work towards running a 5K again. I used to run marathons -- never thought I would have become so out of shape and would STRUGGLE to complete a 5K!

I just wanted to introduce myself and post my current weight to help keep myself accountable. I've been trying to lose these pounds and get in shape since the beginning of April, but I keep allowing myself to quit. I basically lost 5 pounds -- and then gave myself the freedom to stop working out and eating right. This time, I'm in it for the long haul!

Hi Xavery- and welcome to the 30's board!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding....we just had another newbie sign in too who's getting married in a month!!

Sounds like you have stalled, temporarily-- the ladies here are great at motivating each other. You'll find that they'll give out great advice and lend lots of support.

It is difficult at the beginning to stick with a program, but having something to aim for (like your wedding) really helps. We'll do all we can to keep you on track. Good to have you here :-)

Welcome I am in the same boat as you. I need to drop about 25 lbs. I was walking everyday and gave up pop but have slipped for the last month and a half. I just lost my motivation and started drinking pop again. Maybe we all can keep in touch and our progress. Congrats on your upcoming wedding--I know you can loose the weight.

Welcome!

I find that when I lose my motivation, I picture myself doing the event that I working towards...does that make any sense. In other words, when you are on the tread mill, picture yourself walking down the isle towards your fiancée. Not only will this keep you going, but will also get your mind off how many more minutes you have to do. We are around the same size, I also stalled at 168, but a dose of chicken pox got me over the hump and down to 156. I am not suggesting you get sick, but maybe try something different to get your bodies attention. Perhaps a different form of exercise. Kick boxing is amazing and I think the best and fastest slimming exercise out there - it's also a stress relief, something that whilst planning a wedding may come in handy.

Congrats on your wedding and keep it going. This is a great bored to come to and read for motivation. I actually find that I tend to lose weight in the months that I more active on this site.
