Need some encouragement

Hi everyone,

I really don't mean to be negative, but I am in such a funk lately. I have only had 30 minutes of exercise this week, so far! I am too tired to do anything. Though, I know that if I exercise, I actually will feel so much better!
I've got to get my act back together! Any encouraging or "get moving" words are greatly appreciated.

The more you put in, the more you get out. Get out there and do, say, 5 minutes. The next day, get out and do 10 minutes. The day after that, do 20 minutes. That way you aren't stressing out, and you are still getting some sort of exercise. :)

Thanks, I will start small. You are right. I forget that every little bit counts, and all I need to do is get out there,...
Have a great day!

Why not try to do something that is part of your lifestyle? For instance, walk or cycle to work; you will get the exercise without having to make it something special like going to the gym. Before you know it you will be whizzing around town, getting slimmer, being kinder to the environment and getting the exercise that you need all by doing something that you needed to do anyway. You have to go to work, just change how you get there..

And hey we all get in funks and bored of working out; just imagine that if you get to the gym and work out, how happy you will be in 6 months...if you don't then you will not have made any improvement and would have lost the 6 months..either way the 6 months will happen, you just need to decide how well you are going to look at the end of it.

I am in the same boat. It's been a tough week at my house, and I know the exerciss will keep the stress down and I will feel better. But instead I sat on the couch with my hubby last night, watched a movie, and ate. I hope to do better today and start fresh - will enjoy reading any encouraging words that others post. Good luck to you - keep making the time to come to this board - everyone here is so helpful and so encouraging!

Hey Cat......slumps are the worst- and it seems (well in my case when I get them) that there's no rhyme or reason for them to spring up! Like Modanogrrl suggested- the little things; even if you cannot walk to work, park further away; put on the radio in the morning....do a little dancing, walk around the block at lunch, or after work. Baby steps.

We all know the benefits of exercise- and the satisfaction we get when done- remember those things, and like NIKE says "just do it"!

Happy Friday ;-)

Thank you all for your encouraging words. I used to ride my bike to work, but it is so darn muggy and hot, it really makes it miserable. In addition, we get our Florida rains, and lately they've become very unpredictable. There have been times when I'm already to ride, and I have to switch gears. I actually found the "real reason" for my stressing out. Just knowing, I feel better. I work nights in a hospital, so I've starting walking laps just to keep awake. I will keep plugging away. Have a great weekend all.

Just go out and walk around the neighborhood. Dont hink about it, just do it. Put everything aside and go for a nice long walk. Dont run or jog, just walk. Your metabolism will pick up and keep in higher gear for days as long as you walk for atlease 1 hour.

Good luck!

My sister is a nurse...works nights too...and we're in Georgia where it is just as hot and humid as Florida!

Cat - it sucks being in a funk like that. And no matter what you tell yourself, for some reason our brains refuse to believe that exercise will make us feel better.

Of course, I tend to convince myself that it is really a dairy queen blizzard that will make my blues go away, and darnit if that doesn't work either. LOL

I agree with the others in finding 5 or 10 minutes to fit something in, and working it into your schedule - walking up stairs, walking around the block, bike riding to work, finding some way to trick your brain into exercising while not appearing to exercise can do wonders for you!!

I hear you on the weather though - everyday it threatens to thunderstorm, and yet by mid-afternoon the sun is out and it's beautiful. So now I keep my rollerblades in my car trunk, a pair of walking shoes at work, and some deodorant, and I'm set to go when I have a moment, whether it's a 15 minute roller blade, or a 1/2 hour walk, I don't really have any excuses.
