Finally, a little progress

Well, I'm happy to report that I've finally seen some progress. I'm still not dropping the pounds, but I feel like I've toned up quite a bit. My arms and legs look a bit smaller and my clothes fit better. But that stubborn belly fat seems like it'll be the last to go. A month of 6 days/week of cardio got me nowhere, but when I cut back to 5 days/week and cut my cardio in half and added in weights, I noticed progress after only 2 weeks. I'm definitely keeping this up!

The one problem I've noticed is that with the increased workout has come a dramatic increase in my appetite. Despite my goal of eating 1600 cal/day, I'm up around 1800 most days. I've tried increasing my water (sometimes 4+ liters per day) and my protein, but nothing seems to get rid of this appetite. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We all have to find what works for us.....everyone's a little different. Glad you finally found something that works for you- keep it up now!

As for the ravenous appetite- ensure you have something to sustain you for the workouts (half a bagel and some peanut butter), and something afterwards too, like a sports drink- to replace lost electrolytes and some complex carbs /protein- like a turkey sandwich.....maybe fueling up before and replenishing after your workouts will help with hunger hitting you later in the day.

Hmm, I'd say if you are ravenous and find yourself close to 1800 a day, and are still seeing some results, try leaving those cals around 1800. You body just might be sending you a message that 1800 is what it takes to sustain you with your increased activity level.

The other thing to check is to make sure that you are getting adequate fat and fibre. Sometimes we skimp on those things when we are looking to cut calories, but they are what will help us feel full.

Great job on the toning!! It sounds like you have found what works for you!

Miranda is so right. Fat satiates the hunger but we are often told low fat low fat when we are trying to lose weight. So we try to stay away from it. So if you are trying to stave off a hunger bought, definitely some fat is good. Try some nuts, or like someone else suggested, maybe some peanut butter or even better almond butter or a little low fat cheese with some veggies. The fat will satiate your hunger and at least you will you feel a bit fuller. Walnuts are good as well.

I have actually been going for peanut butter and high fiber bread when I'm hungry, but I've never tried almond butter. It sounds good. Where would I find it?

I hit a little setback this week. I woke up yesterday with some back pain and it progressed through the day until I couldn't move. I saw my doctor this morning, since the pain hadn't gone away and now I'm on muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatories, and bed rest. I really have to watch what I eat if I'm not even moving around much. I hope to be back on my feet by Tuesday.

You can find almond butter in your organic section of the grocery store or any health food store.

today was horrible...took a major turn for the worse. My back was so bad I couldn't sit or stand. I spent 6 hours in the ER and got lots of drugs that still didn't take care of the pain. I'm not on percocet and valium and it barely helps. I'm supposed to stay drugged up for a few days to get rid of the muscle spasm so I can get an MRI.

So, I'm now typing while laying in bed using my laptop....logged onto someone's wireless network so I don't have o get up. This is terrible....the pain is the worst I've ever had!
