In an effort to make food in schools healthier, some school districts have actually banned cupcakes at school birthday celebrations. Do you agree with this cupcake crackdown? What would you suggest parents bring to birthday celebrations instead?

You would not be the lame mom if you served fruit slices and oreos; kids love them! You could also get twix or kit kat singles where they only get one finger? I remember getting similiar treats after a soccer or softball game, orange slices were my favourite!

We have a sugar free bakery in our town that makes FABULOUS sugar free cupcakes. YUM!!!!

But I can understand why homemade treats aren't allowed due to not knowing what is going in them (peanut allergies, gluten allergies all the other allergies under the sun kids these days seem to have)

There are so many healthy things you can make for kids that are really tasty that are aren't even vegetables.

No I don't think that's lame at all Rebecca- find it hard to believe they won't allow homemade treats (and do see Lovinhockey's point about not knowing what would be in them......however same thing can be said for 'bakery goods'...)- another good way to find out what would go over well, with teachers and kids, is to ask the teacher directly what she'd prefer (not to eat, lol- but her suggestions as to what works, and what doesn't)-

Oh and trust me its so good. They make macaroons and cream horns and everything. The guy makes it with splenda as his sweetener and being on South Beach and not being able to eat sugar is tough. So when I am having my period. A sugar free cupcake is the best treat ever. A chocolate cupcake with white frosting is the best treat ever!!!!

There is a good cupcake place in NYC also they use agave nectar and their products are gluten free as well. Expensive but they are suppose to be delicious.
