Thanks Sonya! I saw that a little while too, too bad I can't take advantage of it this year!
*Repeats to self--"We cannot go to WDW the week before Kindergarten starts. We cannot go to WDW the week before Kindergarten starts. We cannot......"
Oh no, you've got it all wrong....
I'm not the good mom, I'm the procrastinating one who will put off school shopping until that week. It's a two-day drive to WDW, and I don't like to drive all the way down there if we can't stay all week, so we'd get home on Sunday and have to do school shopping and it would be a mess.
The bright side is, if we wait until May (2007) like we have planned, we won't need a stroller or a diaper bag! DS2 is potty trained now, but I still take extra stuff in case of an accident, and by next year, we should be good to go!
so we'd get home on Sunday and have to do school shopping and it would be a mess.
LOL I'd be doing the shopping AT Disney World... unless of course it's one of those (insert your own word) schools where the kids can't have anything fun and need plain pencils, crayons and notebooks. Or one of those schools where everything goes into a group box for all the kids to use. Then I'd hit Target before we left.
Sonya, you read my mind! But sadly, no, Isaac will be 3 in June, so he's no longer free. As far as the school, I don't know yet, but I will soon. We have our registration appointment this week. It's a private school, so I doubt everything goes into one box.
I did at least ask DH, thought since it was *such* a savings, we should at least consider....he did for about 2 seconds, and it was a resounding NO. His reasons make sense, but we have changed/made plans around the discounts for the last two years so I had to try. Next May it will be, leave right after Kindergarten graduation, with (these are DH reasons)
--It's only the $1222 for a family of four (saw that somewhere, lol) if we go during value season, which starts after school does and that's only for 5 nights/6 days. Not long enough for the 2-day drive on each end.
--no stroller to drag around next year, will rent one at the parks if we need it, but Isaac didn't use it half the time last year at age 2, and Trevor's never used one at WDW,
--and no diapers to tote around,
--and we can stay longer if we wait
--and have time to save longer and do more things.
--and hopefully Isaac won't require such a long nap. Right now he naps about 4 hours every afternoon, and that was even at WDW. Hopefully we can cut that down to 2 hours by this time next year?
--and he's not going, which means I'd have to drive with the boys and he knows that ain't happenin'
I lost the battle, but I will win this war!!!
Oh, I know how that goes. I told dh about it to see if maybe he would think to re-arrange our Dec vacation for a longer late Sept vactaion, but he said no. In fact he's starting to say no on Dec...must work on that. So then I tried working the free dining into our surprise bday trip in Aug, but it just doesn't make sense. Kait (who the surprise is for) and I have APs, mom has leftover days on old tickets, so the one day ticket we'd have to buy would be a watse, we're staying at SoG and would have to go to a mod (mom won't do value) which would cost more, then I have the DDE card so really the whole thing doesn't make any sense for us to do.
Now that I've completely hijacked your thread....lol
The dining plan really, really worked well for us. I can see how it wouldn't for everyone, but it did for us. The only thing was that we didn't eat enough counter service to use up all our credits, but I'm working on that for next year. Only then, Isaac will be 3, so he'll have his own meals too. Jeesh!
DH and I split the adult meal for counter service, and the boys shared (Trevor's) one child counter service meal and we had plenty. We did the same for table service, except for AYCE meals of course. We had plenty of food that way, didn't waste much at all, and got to eat more ts meals. My budget in 2004 was $140 a day for food, including one sit-down meal, and we used almost all of it. With the dining plan, it was only $80 a day for food if you count it that way, so we came out ahead; even next year paying for Isaac it will work for us.
As far as the naps, at WDW Trevor (then 4) took the 4-hour naps too. He's just now getting away from it, still naps for an hour or two most days, but he does ok if he doesn't have the nap. Good thing, he starts K in the fall, I think they'd frown on 4-hour naptime! Works for DH too, that's the only time he sleeps. Between school from 4-11 (counting drive time) 3 nights a week, clinicals 2 or 3 8-hour days during the week (daytime), working full time midnight shift and working one 8-hour evening shift a week, that's the only thing keeping him going!
I don't get the whole 10-yo are adult thing, not at all. That's another (hijacked, lol) thread!
