Hi, the free dining plan during Aug-Sept has me pondering.....

We would love to plan a trip. I had been thinking of November, or even into next January. But now, with the free dining, I am considering September. Could someone give me any ideas of crowd levels? Also, DH pointed out that those months are pretty much hurricane season. Does anyone have any experience with that?

Thank you so much!

We've gone the last two years during this time. Last year it was around 8/26-9/4 and the year before that it was 9/26-10/4 (dates aren't exact, but as close as I can remember, lol).

We found low crowds both times; I don't think we waited over 15 minutes for anything except Soarin'. We were there during the free dining last year. My only advice with that is to make sure you have ADRs, or you probably won't get to eat a sit-down meal. People were being turned away every single time we checked in for a sit-down meal. The weather was to our liking, but it was still hot even at the end of Sept. Yes, it does rain almost every afternoon for an hour or so, but even in the rain we had a blast. I bought a hat, had to use an umbrella a couple times, but we had fun with it. It wasn't like it was a cold rain.

Your DH is right, it is hurricane season. We arrived in 2004 the day before Hurricane Jeanne did. We had to stay in our room the entire day, I think they asked us to stay in from around midnight Saturday night/Sunday morning until around 6-7 pm on Sunday. We knew it was coming, and we were prepared with food and things in the room to keep us occupied. We did not lose electric or water, that was no problem. We felt 100% safe, even in a value resort. The window didn't rattle, we could hear a little of the storm outside, but I didn't wake up when it started (around 4 am). I thought Disney did a good job at keeping us informed of what was going on, they put notices in/under our door, left messages on the voice mail (they didn't call and ring the phone tho, just left the message). As long as you aren't traveling on the day the hurricane is going through the area, and if you're staying at a Disney resort, you should be fine. Of course, these things are out of their control, and Katrina (went through FL the day before we arrived, we were at WDW when it hit the gulf coast) was an exception to most of the "rules", so do use your common sense, and get trip insurance just in case.

If you have any more questions, just ask!

Yep Hurricanes. We were at WDW for Hurricane Frances and there is no place I'd rather be if I have to be somewhere during a hurricane! Once the storm went through the weather was balmy. We had a couple of rainy days, actually the first day the parks were open after the storms it rained all day, but no ground lost we had a great time. Temps were in the high 70s -mid 80s and occasionally super humid, but never anything that bothered us. Again, at the time we lived in GA, so were used to it. With proper hydration and adequate breaks (even if it's in an A/C attraction) it all works out.

I'll back the hot/humid comments. We went in '95 for our honeymoon. Some days were fine, but our last day there was VERY VERY hot/humid. And we're from Louisiana where it's also hot & humid for a good part of the year.

Thanks for inputfrom you-all!

I think I'll call WDW today, and get price differences on 3 possible dates for trip. Younger DS will turn 10 in November, so that may affect cost also. Yes, I know , I sound "very thrifty"!

The dining plan just sounds so good, I will research when I would have to make ADRs.

I will confess also, it bothers my conscience a little to be "living la vida Mickey" when others in Central FL could be without power, water, etc. during a storm situation.

Thanks so much, colleen
