To EMH or not? What do you do?

We've never done EMH at all, and I'm not sure if we want to for our next trip. The evening EMH will just depend on how the boys are doing, as it will be so late. We like to do early character breakfasts, so I'm not sure about morning EMH. Is it worth it?

LOVE morning EMH at MK, its absolutely terrific!! Evening EMH at MK is alright if yoru kids will last, but they close a lot of the little kiosks and shops. Actually we noticed that at all the parks we did evening EMH at. As soon as normal park closing came things started shutting down. Really annoying. Especially at AK. We only ended up staying 45 min of the evening EMH because everything was closing. Couldn't even get a frozen lemonade on the way out Note- this was pre Expedition Everest and we love AK.
I think the EMH in the morning are great if you have young kids. It is not so hot out and I think we did six of the kids must do things at MK before the park even opened to the general public. We got there about 15 minutes before they opened the doors to us and the kids got to see all of the opening events and the characters coming in on the train. They loved it.

We have never stayed on site to take advantage of EMH. But with our trip in September, we will be using it.
I figure with the early days we will get up do the EMH and hit what ever else we want to see and take a nice mid day break/nap/swim. I have all of our sit down meals scheduled as dinners around 5 or 6. I figure then after everyone has fueled themselves we can do late EMH. I am pretty excited about EMH...especially at MGM. We love Rock N Roller Coaster at TOT. I think that will be our favorite EMH.
And I am excited about EMH at AK because of Everest.

I didn't realize they do the opening ceremonies for EMH mornings, we've never seen those either. I'd like to see that too!

Well, I just posted below that morning EMH probably wouldn't work for us because Mike & Aly do not like being woken up by an alarm on vacation...lol. And evening EMH just seems more like the E-ride nights where mostly just the thrill rides are open.
I've always loved the idea that Epcot is open late every night, even in the off-season, so that's a perfect way for us to wind down the night since it's my & Aly's favorite park. And even though it says Future World is only open until 7pm, Spaceship Earth stays open until 9 and when we've been there so has Imagination.
Just an aside--I do remember our last night during 2002 when it was 4 days of downpours. We were eating at Electric Umbrella (not our first choice, but Sunshine Season Food Fair was already shut down, and it was the closest place we could go without getting too wet--we spent a few HOURS in Innoventions that night!). We were all frustrated because of the rain and the fact that all 3 of us were sick. I overheard a lady with a baby at the next table tell her husband, "I just asked and everything in the whole park is shut down until Illuminations...and that's 2 hours away, so I guess we'll just have to sit in here and chill for 2 hours." I really should've said something, but I just minded my business because I was frustrated anyway and maybe she just wanted to "chill" and not take the baby out in the rain. But, all of World Showcase was going to be open for that 2 hours.

Actually, this is what I've always heard/read about early entry for MK. That hour that's just for the resort guests is awesome..no waits for anything in Fantasyland or Tomorrowland. But come 9am, the park is REALLY crowded until about 11 am. Sounds to me like people that don't come during that early hour, come in at 9am anyway, which is why we've always tried to avoid EMH at MK.
That's actually the only EMH/EE we avoided was MK. In fact, we went to MGM before on an EE day and were actually let into the park a few minutes early (could've been even earlier if we hadn't had to wait to upgrade our tickets, but fortunately, it wasn't a wait...I was the only one at the window). That was our first trip in '99. Had the whole MGM thing planned out and did it exactly as planned: Muppets, Mickey, Playhouse Disney (actually just Bear then), Little Mermaid. Then, we headed off to Epcot.

Sounds like it might be ok to do the EMH at MK, hit all of Fantasyland or whatever, then go somewhere else the rest of the day.
This will be our first trip (well, other than our honeymoon) that we've gone during the summer or a busy time. The last two trips we've had a max of 15 minute wait for anything we wanted to do. I'm afraid of what kind of crowds we're going to find, but I can't help it. I don't want to take my DS out of school to go, even if it is just Kindergarten; since we like to go for at least 7 days, it just seems like too much school for him to miss (just for our family, not saying anything about what is right for other families).
I have a year to make up my mind, it's hard to tell what I'll find before then.
We really like the early EMHs although I will say that once again, the one at MGM was really not worth it for us (I thought since the girls like Star Tours so much we'd do that over and over again plus see
