Chef Mickey for dinner...
| Mon, 04-24-2006 - 4:00pm |
Greetings from rainy Massachusetts!
I was wondering--has anyone had good luck w/ Chef Mickey's for dinner? I've read other reports on another board, & they are quiet mixed. We are planning ONE character dinner to end our trip. As we have a 10yr old ds & 6 yr old dd, we were hoping for Mickey & the gang. Is the food ok? Are the waiters/waitresses friendly? Will we be able to meet the characters?
If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them too!
~Thanks~Chris

We did Chef Mickey's for dinner in 2004 on the night we arrived. We had fun, and the food was good, but it was not our favorite meal of the trip. HOWEVER, we will be trying it again. The night we ate there was the night Hurricane Jeanne came through. We were nervous because the wind and rain had started already, we didn't know what to expect, it seemed like most people there were nervous, not to mention we'd gotten to Orlando airport around midnight the night before, didn't get to bed until about 2 am, then had to be ready to meet our limo at 8 am to bring us to Disney. Youngest DS was fussy and out of sorts, and we were all just plain tired.
The characters all visited with us, most of them even patted youngest ds on the head, they understood he didn't want anything to do with them. We saw a couple of them twice. The food was hot and fresh and it was good, and there was a good selection.
We also love the breakfast at Chef Mickey's, have done that both trips and will do that again too.

Chris,
We have booked Chef Mickey's for our first night dinner (5/19). I too have heard mixed reviews about the food, but I'm really after the atmosphere and a character meal outside the parks for our first night. I can let you know how it goes once we're back in early June.

We eat here during every trip for dinner. We think the food is great (their prime rib & parmesan mashed ptatoes are yummy!! Not to mention the deserts!!) Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale all walk around and then there is one more character in the lobby (usually Donald). The characters have always spent a good amount of time with us and interact with the kids. This is definitely one of our favorites!!

Chef Mickey's is one of those places that people either love or hate. We happen to LOVE it. It is our first night tradition *always* to have dinner at Chef Mickey's and then ride the monorail loop. We usually go into the MK for Wishes and Spectro too.
The food IS NOT gourmet. It is a buffet, so if you go in with buffet expectations, you'll be fine. I'm not much of a buffet lover myself, but I've always found enough to eat there to make me very full. As for quality, I'd say it's more than a few notches above an "Old Country Buffet" if you have one of those.
We love the whole atmosphere...being in the CR, with the monorail zooming above. The character interaction is great at CM's, and the little celebration that they do every hour is alot of fun. It puts us all in that Disney spirit right away....(I always cry when the celebration song starts! I know, I'm a dope! LOL)
The only other dinner buffet we've done is BOMA, and that's not a character meal. Oh, and a LONG LONG time ago (like 13 years ago), we did the Cape May Clam Bake. I'm not a seafood person, so it didn't thrill me.
The only other dinner buffet that I'd *like* to try is 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian. I've heard good things, but it's a Cinderella dinner, and having two boys, ages almost 7 and almost 11, they aren't the least bit interested in dining with a Princess!
