When is enough enough?

I'm not sure what advice I'm needing, but if you read this and you have any thoughts, let me know.

We're planning for May/June 2007. Right now, the dates *I'm* looking at are May 25-June 2. That's eight nights and nine days. We'll have 8-day park hoppers. We will arrive leave home on the evening of the 24th, drive through the night and arrive probably by 10:00 am on the 25th at our resort. DH wants to cut a couple days off the trip, because he thought our 9 night trip in 2004 was waaayyyyy too long. Part of that couldn't be helped because of the hurricane, but that's not the point.

I'm afraid to shorten it too much, because I'm thinking it will be fairly crowded and we won't get to do much. I do have tentative plans for most of Memorial Day weekend to stay out of the parks, at least if it's terribly crowded. That's something we don't usually do; we normally go to the parks every day, and we like it that way. I just feel like we'll be missing out if we cut the trip short. We won't be going back for at least 2 years after that trip, and that's going to depend because we'll have 2 kids in private school.

So, how much is enough? How do you decide, and know what's right to do? How do you keep from feeling like you've short-changed yourself on a good vacation?

Edited to add: Playing around on Disney's site, it looks like if we cut it down to 6 nights/7 days, we can stay at a moderate for pretty much the same as I was planning to spend, of course based on this year's package rates but that's all I have to go on right now.

So what do you think?

Steph,

I am going to be no help here. Last year we had seven day park hoppers. It was only around a $10 difference to buy the extra day. (I think I remember that correctly.) Anyway this year we are going for 11 nights. :o) Good luck. When you drive though it is hard. We drive as well. The drive there wasn't too bad because we were excited but man the drive back was awful! I actually wanted to cry when we left..............

I'm going to tell you to go for as long as you possibly can afford to both financially and time-wise from work/school.

I just want to add that we went over Memorial weekend in 2004 and it was not busy at all, we walked on to most rides or had a 10-15 wait. The longest waits we encountered were for Splash Mountain (1 and 1/2 waits) but we fastpassed it. MGM was completely dead on Memorial Day, no waits or 5 min waits. I really think it was a great time to be there!

Good Luck

I'm with Val. I say if you can afford it and have the time, go for it!

I learned not to base my future trips on ones already taken. Several years ago, we stayed for ten days. When it was time to go, none of us was ready to pack up and head home! We were all sucked into the magic of Disney. Now, this last trip in March, well, I was counting the days until we came home. However, I'm already looking forward to our next trip!

I would be willing to bet that your dh has a great time on this trip!

if you are not going inot parks every day your husband may enjoy it better just that there will be more time to lie by pool or maybe go over to FW and go fishing or canoeing more relaxing things so then the vacaton does not seem that long. we have gone 2 weeks not all at disney but has been to long away from home i think 9 or 10 days is perfect. 7 days is just not long enough littlebitt

Thank you Tawnya, that is great to hear! I'm having visions of shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, 2 hours waits, etc. I like you report MUCH better!

I'm thinking you and Val are right! DH really does like WDW, I guess he just had too much of a good thing in 2004 or something. I do need to learn not to measure this trip by ones we've already taken, that's a good thing to think about. Our kids have grown up a little bit (not much, lol) and their likes/dislikes are changing, so our trip can't be exactly the same as the one before, or the one before that.

Spending an evening at FW is one thing that I have planned for us to do on a non-park afternoon/evening. That just seems strange, we've never not gone to a park at WDW!
