I am really getting excited about our December trip! One of the things I want for this trip is for DH to absolutely have the time of his life so we might actually get to go back again.
In that light, I am thinking of DVC. Hee, hee. Yes, I am getting waaaaay ahead of myself!
From what I can understand (and I don't think this can possibly be right), one buys points one time and then the points renew every year. So you would almost be staying for "free" once you used the points once? That cannot possibly be right, can it?
If it is so, then sign me up! LOL!

I don't have DVC, but have a time share through Hilton. We want to sell our Hilton and get DVC or do both (what DH wants).
This is how it works. You pay $20,000(for instance). That will get you X amount of points to "spend" every year or bank for the next.
Every year you pay fees (taxes/maintenance). That amount depends on how much "property" you own - points.
Your vacations are "free" after you pay off the $20,000 amount. But you will still have your yearly fees to pay.
Hope that helps!

To add to that:
Minimum buy in for points is 150, and the last figure I saw for Saratoga Springs was $75 p/point, I haven't looked in a while so it may have gone up. The maintance fee for SS was somewhere between $3-4 per point (remember I haven't looked in a while if I'm way off! lol)
You can make reservations at your home resort 11 months in advance and every other DVC resort 7 mo in advance. You can also use your points to stay at other Disney resorts, take a Disney cruise or trade through Interval International. The latter 3 choices not being the 'best' use of your points.
If you're not vacationing one year you can bank your points for years (sorry don't know how many) or you can rent the points to people who want to stay DVC but not pay rack rate like me. :-) You can also borrow points from the next year, just remember that you borrowed them because once they're gone, they're gone. So if you had 150 points for this year but your vacation would cost you 200 you can borrow 50 from next year but that would only leave you 100 for next year.
You can also by DVC by resale. I think dvcresale dot com is the website.
OK, I should have just turned around and dug out my DVC stuff...
2006 Saratoga Springs is $98.00/point 150 min.
Dues are $3.9808/point.
They list different finance options with different down payment choices.
I think however this was pre March pricing for Saratoga...it was a special deal maybe...don't know if prices went up.
