DH and I have not been to Disney in about 5 years, and that was without kids so we did all the adult stuff....
We are going next summer, late June early July....
So, when should we book? We really need reccomendation on where to eat too. We will have a 5 yo and a 2yo. We definatly want the character breakfast, any other good suggestions? We really want to make this as magical as possible for the kids. Thanks so much for any suggestions, I am sooo happy I found this board!

Are you going to Disney WORLD in Florida or DisneyLAND in California? By next summer, do you mean 2006 or 2007?

You can book now, even if it is 2007. It is usually best to CALL and not to book online. But there are even different places to call. For Disney World, and I think for Disneyland, too, but I'm not sure, you can book with Walt Disney Travel Company OR directly with CRO (Central Reservations Office). I think both options are still available. In the past, CRO has always been the better choice, and if discounts come out later, you can still apply them to your reservation. You can also get a Disney travel agent (some are FREE to you) that can do it all for you. You don't have to look very far to find a great one. ;o)

As far as restaurants:

For Disney World, check out this link: http://www.allearsnet.com/din/dining.htm

For Disneyland, check out this link: http://www.allearsnet.com/dlr/tp/dl/dl_rest.htm

Central Reservations and WDTravel Company use the same phone number. 1 407 WDisney. Both can book in the others systems and it's most likely that you'll get someone trained only on WDTC since they have stopped training CRO bookings. The difference is that CRO does room only which has different payment policies.

Thanks...I remember there was some "merger" of sorts between CRO & WDTC, but I couldn't remember the details.

I don't remember exactly what the deal was but they pretty much just stopped training new people on CRO bookings. So when you call, even if you're doing a room only, unless you know and you specify the booking policy you want (one night deposit balance due at check in or 200 deposit balance due 45 days out) you'll end up with WDTC policy. Which can become a nasty shock if you don't read the fine print on your papers and think you have until you check in to pay and by some fluke (hopefully before your reservation is canceled)

Do they still have the same policies as far as cancellation. In the past, it was as follows:

CRO--you can get a refund if it's 5 days out.

WDTC--you can only put it to your next trip

I may even be wrong about that. I remember Deb, lvstravel, had booked through WDTC and she still has the amount she put in ready for her WDW trip (no, it couldn't be transferred to DL). But, if she had booked through CRO, she could've gotten her money back.

Disney Breakfasts aren't our thing as we are not morning people.... however, we go every year to Disney as we are DVC members. We go 3 Character Meals while at Disney and I think they all have breakfast, though I am unsure of the Winnie-the-Pooh & Friends @ Crystal Palace in MK. (Just checked www.allearsnet.com and they do!)
If I were to book a breakfast, do one close to or at a park and then spend the day getting rid of the calories!!!
If you want to do MK, you can either do Crystal Palace with Pooh and Friends or Eat at the Castle with Cinderella & the other princesses. MK resorts that host great meals as well are O'hanas at the POLY with Stitch and Lilo and PLuto and Mickey, Chef Mickey's @ the Contemporary, or Grand Floridian hosts a Character Breakfast that has Mary Poppins, mad hatter and Alice.
Epcot has a new Princess Character meal too @ Norway!
AK has Donald's Breakfastsaurus with Mickey and the gang.
The meals are either served buffet or family-sytle (big platters of food brought to your table to share.
You can go to the website in this clip and see the menus, characters, cost and times.
Have a magical trip and have fun planning!
