How likely would it be to find another family with a vehicle and sharing the cost of travelling to a local grocery to stock up for Disney? I don't want the added expense of a vehicle rental (coming from Niagara Canada the trip has already cost us $7500 cdn). I don't plan on leaving the resort other than for this reason and just wondering if this is something that is commonly done or if it would be rude to ask someone staying at the cabins with a vehicle. Just curious, thanks.

I guess it comes down to what do you really need at the grocery store? And where are you staying? At the cabins?

I read somewhere that there is a service that will shop for you (for a fee) and deliver your food to where you are staying. I haven't tried it...I am sure someone here will know.

We have stayed off site at our timeshare with a grocery across the street very nice.

We have stayed off site at a hotel and didn't do the grocery. Our hotel served breakfast and beverages where free at anytime so the reason why we would go to the grocery was eliminated. (milk for the kids). We packed snacks in a suitcase.

This year we are staying onsite. I haven't decided what we are going to do. I might mail myself a package of snacks to the resort or we might just suck it up and buy everything there. Not the choice when you are already spending a lot for a trip.

I would check out the service...let me see if I can find information.

I had also thought of a service that does the shopping for you. Not sure if it's offered where she's staying, but many times the hotel or resort has that service available.

How about just hiring a cab for your one trip to the store. It would certainly be cheaper than renting a car and save you the pressure of trying to find someone on site to "share" a car ride to the store with.

When are you guys going, and are you going to DL or DW? I am going to DL from the 9th of June to the 13th of June. We could help you out if you are going to be there at the same time. We are staying off site, but found a costco near by that we are going to stop at and we will most likely need to go a few other times besides that. Let me know.

I like the cab idea... and remember, you can take a disney bus to downtown disney, then grab a cab from there - it will be a shorter ride, so probably less cab fare (i'm just assuming the cab fare would be less). maybe then take the cab all the way back to Ft. Wilderness if you have too many packages with you to haul back on a disney bus from downtown. You could even walk from downtown disney to Goodings if you had to... i've never clocked it, but it's maybe less than a 1/2 mile???? anyone else know? i'm guessing. it depends on which month you're going if you could do the walk. and again, depends on how many packages you'll be getting for the walk back.

OR the mailing yourself a package idea... mail all your dry goods, then just get milk, etc, from the Ft. Wilderness store (you said cabins, right?).

I have to say, i'd feel weird if another guest approached us at the cabins (or any resort) and asked us for a ride in our car to the grocery store. i know dh would feel paranoid and wouldn't do it. not that we're mean or anything, but i'd think 'what are they up to?'... it's the paranoid new yorker in me, i guess. i'd also assume if someone can pay to stay at disney, they can pay $20 for a cab ride, knim? so i'd again think they were up to something and it would make me nervous.

hth! oh, and we just stayed at the cabins and loved it! i have to finish my trip reports, and i'm just getting to the cabin part now. i loved it so much i really want to go back there next time.
