I'm a big park hopper fan. But I will say depending on when you go and what you want to see, it may or may not be necessary.

The park schedules are being released 6 months in advance so you can expect to see Disney's site updated with May 07 hours in November.

We just went in July and I had originally planned on getting the park hopper option on our tickets. But out to save $140 I chose not to, and we didnt miss it at all. We did however add the waterpark option. There is just so much to do at each park you need more than one day at each one, IMO anyway. If you are going to disneyland I would say definetly get the parkhopper, but for disneyworld...its just sooooo big with soooo much to do! I dont think its neccessary and we were there for 8 days.

My husband and I had hoppers on our honeymoon, but didn't really use the option much. We took our kids for the first time in June, along with my parents. We originally did not purchase the hopper, but I was having a hard time trying to schedule everything. I was really stressing out because I was afraid I'd have everything set and need to change because of the weather. I finally called and added the hoppers and immediately felt so much better. As it turned out, we were there during tropical storm Alberto and wound up in the rain anyway :) Those were our best days though! We ended up hopping to MK most days because there were more things there our boys enjoyed. One day we got to Epcot and it was packed, we hopped to MK which was much less crowded. I think a lot will depend on what your kids are like. My boys are 2 and 4. I knew ahead of time that they tire easily and my older ones gets overstimulated and has meltdowns. So, having to option to leave one park and go to another in the evening was a major plus for us. In the end, I really think it was worth the extra money. But, I would think it is probably easier to plan on one park per day if the children were a bit older. Go with your gut and remember worst case scenerio....your still at Disney World!
I felt like I kind of stayed on the fence with that one. I hope that was at least a little helpful :)

We decided the extra $40 a ticket will be worth it!
We also sprung for a 6 day hopper since we are arrivung day 1 at 11 AM and leaving day 6 at 7 PM.
We are hitting MGM our first "Day" there, and will leave when we tire, but hopefully get to see Fantasmic.
Day 2, we are going to MK, will take a mid day break, then hopefully go back to MK.
Day 3, we are goin to AK, then Chef Mickeys after the parade, and then, since we will be close, the MK, or to see Fantasmic, or maybe to FW for campfire and movies.
Day 4 we will start off at Epcot, take our mid day break, then do the World Showcase, but if the kids get tired or bored (almost 6, 4 and 14 months) we have the option of going to a differnet park.
Day 5 will be a busy one. EMH at MK, then DTD for lunch/ BBB. THen off to the Grand FLoridian for DInner, then if we are not too tired, back to MK, ot hit any night time show we missed.
Day 6, Resort breakfast, then "Favorite or forgotten" run of shows/ rides until we have to get back to our resort to catch the ME.
SO, while we are not planning on hoping every day, I do like the flexibility the hopper adds (THe extra $$ is worth less stress IMHO!) If something should come up, our plans are flexible enough to allow us to hop just about every day! We only have 3 meals planned in the parks themselves (50's our arrival day late lunch, CP day 2 morning before the park even opens and Le Cellier for lunch on day 4) Since The Studios is closest to our resort, and has the fewest things for our kids to do, we figured it was perfect for our arrival day BUT if we get there and it is too hot/ we are too tired/ there are just too many meltdowns from DH , myself or our kids, we can hop a bus to somewhere, anywhere else, after we've had a good sit down meal! We didn't add the water park option since we didn't think we had any "free" Time, and the kids will be just as thrilled with the pools at our resort, but I can see that option coming into play in a few more years!
We will not be paying for parking, a rental car, or most meals (We have the dining plan) so, Park Hopping fit nicely within our budget. Again, what price tag would you put on "I really wish we could just go to another park for an hour or two!"? ANd yes, you can really hop the monorail, but or boat, ride ________ then come right back to your original park!
Enjoy your vacation whatever you decide!!!

We were there late June this year for two weeks. We had ten day base tickets (no park hopper) and don't regret the choice. I can see where it would have been nice, in particular to offer flexibility in catching night time shows, but still not worth the $$$ to us since we were trying to do things on a budget.
